Hi everyone

I'm in the middle of the NVC stage and waiting for my wife's interview to be schedules.

Some questions regarding after steps after her arrival to US.

1. Is it true that she can't apply for any gov. benefits within 5 years of her arrival? Assuming these are food stamps and medicaid. And is the unemployment excluded from the above? (Assuming she can find a job and worked for 6 month).

2. Is there any health insurance recommended for the new immigrant?

3. I'm currently on a temporary withdrawn status from my graduate school and have a part time job. If I lose my job after she comes, will I be eligible to apply food stamps/medicaid/unemployment for myself only>? We have my parents as co-sponsor, will that effect the process of me getting benefits? (I'm not dependent on their tax) or effect she getting her green card?

4. Is it okay for us to move to another state right after she comes?

Thanks.

I understand that the sponsor is responsible for the beneficiary until he has 40 work credits or becomes a citizen, then you as the petitioner and your parents as co-sponsors will be responsible for any government benefits your wife receives.

As for you being the petitioning citizen who asks for benefits, I believe it does not affect your wife's process.  Hopefully comments from the experts.

It is fine to move, but you must inform USCIS that you are doing so they can update their records.

Also you will want to wait for her physical Permanent Resident card (Green Card) to arrive in the mail at the US mailing address you supplied during the application.
