Good morning guys,

My girlfriend (petitioner) is about to send the petition but we're just confused about sending either the copy her passport or birth certificate. Apparently she saw somewhere that the passport needs 5 years left on it to be valid but the uscis website doesn't mention it, and about the birth certificate apparently she only has the short version of it (? Not sure about this one).

Does any of you know if either a passport with 2 years left on it or the short version of the birth certificate are enough for the petition? Would she also need to send all the pages on her passport?

Thank you

Please tell her to stop reading “somewhere” and start  relying on official instructions. Nowhere does it say it needs to be valid for 5 years. It just need to be unexpired at the time of filing.

This was eliminated several years ago.

Just send the bio page of her passport.

It was actually a post on here dated 2011 and there was a link taking to the uscis website, that does no longer work. I guess it was a thing years back. Thank you for your help!
