My fiancé will arrive in the USA next month with a k1 visa and we have 90 days to get married. I was wondering if we can just get married at the courthouse in my town with a few witnesses? I really want to wait a year to have a big reception with all my family and friends. I know they will ask about our wedding at the adjustment of status interview so I was wondering will a small courthouse wedding be okay with the USCIS officer or will they think we are faking this relationship ?

They won't care what kind of ceremony you have.

They just care about you being legally married, the ceremony itself doesn't matter. Me and my husband got married at the county clerk's and didn't have any witnesses at all.
