After 420 days exactly we received a request for initial evidence.. I was in group 94500 for reference.

Will an explanation of what they are looking for be in an email or will they simply mail me a packet?

How long have the RFEs been taking on average?

Disappointing to receive an RFE and delay the process further but thankful to have a response.

@TTCJ, You definitely will receive a physical letter in the mail asking exactly what they need (same way as for they did for your NOA1 and eventually NOA2). It would have been so much faster and easier to handle RFEs electronically matter of fact it would have been much more efficient if the whole process as in I-129f could be submitted online but oh well maybe one day lol. 

As for how long, I think that entirely depends on how complex the RFE is and I would  estimate 1-2 months from the date they receive it. Some folks here have heard back in 41 days whilst ohters have in been waiting 90+ days so its really a guessing game unfortunately. From what I understand (someone can correct me if I'm wrong), they don't put you back in line so to speak when they receive the RFE as in they most likely have a different file for RFE that they obviously look into prior to working on new cases or along side the new cases (hopefully).

Best of luck to you as well, I am at 405 days and counting... June 18th filer so hang in there!

I see the same message! According to USCIS website, they are having a maintenance at the moment.

We got an RFE is well (after 415 days), quite disappointing to say the least. We have been very careful with our application, it's hard to imagine what is missing, but oh well
