Hi,

We are getting married in 3 weeks. I will then send off the AOS,AP and EAD forms. While im waiting for the EAD is it possible to go to my boston service center where everything is been handled and get a temp EAD so i can look for a job straight away. Does anyone know how fast the boston center is?

I finished working in dublin, ireland on the 2nd of march so dont want a big lapse of not working in my cv when im looking for a job.

The only way to get a temporary EAD is at a POE (only some give it). You will have to wait for the EAD application to be approved before you will be able to work. The good news is that they approve the EAD quickly and almost always before the AP and AOS.

As far as the lapse of working is concerned, I think employers will definitely understand when you explain that the reason was that you immigrated to the U.S. and were unable to work until approved.

Good luck.

there has been cases when an Interim EAD has been given at the district office when an Immigrant has stated and proved distress by not being able to work.

I have not come across anyone who has been denied AOS due to them working without an EAD either. As a rule spouses are forgiven for this and the law is rather grey.

So i have to wait lets say 70 days after UCSIS approve my application for my EAD. We are getting married in 3 weeks and i thought i could work a few weeks after our wedding with a temp EAD from a local service center. EAD's applications are submitted in boston for the new hampshire region. The local office is manchester but they dont deal with EAD's there. We are lucky my fiance has a good job and that we are staying with her parents otherwise we would be screwed financially. Its tough enough not working already and feeling worthless as i contribute nothing atm financially.

join the club!!!!

I am going through Boston and I just mailed my stuff in, so we will see. From what I have read previously Boston doesn't seem to be too fast.

I know it's hard, but I am going to try and volunteer at the local Y. We are very financially strapped without my working, but we're going to tough it out.

Good Luck!

Hello Everyone!

Wow - I am so glad to ehar that we are not the only people in this position - this law is absolutley ridulous, my fiance is here almost 3 months, he cannot work, yet we are being asked to fork out yet more money for the residents card - I am 100% fed up with the beaurocracy of this systme and its utter inneffectiveness.

Financially, it is making me broke - what an unfair system, that is serving to take advantage of people. We submitted the EAD form in February, and of course, nothing has happened since.

Anyway, I just needed to vent here!

What seems to be the typical waiting times for being able to work?

Thanks!

Caoileann

October 2003 Met on holidays in Brazil

February 4th 2005 Filed I-129f (from Brazil) to VSC

February 14th 2005 I-129f is received

February 16th 2005 NOA1 issued

February 22nd 2005 NOA1 received in mail

February 21st 2005 Application is “touched”

April 3rd 2005 Returned to my home to find a letter from the NVC (from March 23rd) stating it had received my approved petition and that it was now en route to the Consulate in Rio. Bizarre stuff - no NOA2, no "touches" but I am a happy girl! APROVADA!! :)

April 5th My fiance receives the package 3 from the US Consulate in Rio de Janeiro

April 8th 1st fax to VSC requesting NOA2 - no response... :(

April 19th 2nd fax to VSC requesting NOA2 - no response...:((

April 21st 3rd fax to VSC requesting NOA2 - no response...:((( - this is getting ridiculous

Late June - NOA2 finally arrives

August 23 Fiance's interview in Rio - visa granted!!!
