Went to our Fil-Am get together yesterday, they had a relative who just graduated High School arrive in USA last week.

They did a student visa (F1). Took only a few months and no medical is required, they are telling me he can stay in USA up to 5 years, and work after 2 year.

He said Consular section was pretty empty due to them not doing many interviews, he said interview was about 3 minutes long.

FYI, F1 visa validity of 5 years doesn't mean one can just stay in the US for 5 years. One has to abide by studying/enrolling in classes per F1 visa regulation. One could be deportable within one month of entering on F1 visa if that person doesn't attend school or takes required credits or doesn't abide by F1 status.

Depends on country

Depends on course of study and if institution is SEPV approved

Depends on if school has accepted the application and approved and can do a I -20 form

Also depends if an organization such as Rotary Club is part of it for student visas for high school

Our daughter studied in Belgium with help from Rotary Club

and right now embassies are doing student visas as the school (for the much of the US and most colleges ) starts in August and LIke you mention no medical exam which is getting more and more difficult to do because of covid and shortage of drs now

I am not here to debate, I am just informing of what I was told

Why in the world would someone come here on a student visa not go to school?

We applied twice for my wife’s brother to come study here. He was denied both times. I’m sure success depends largely on individual circumstances and a visa for him was always a long shot.

Seem pretty easy and simple to me, they said they were going to get another, he has to pass ilets some kind of English proficiency test, but since English is the official language of PI this isn't a problem

Even the community college he is going to advertises for F1 visas, requirements are quite simple and easy to obtain:

I am not debating either, I am just making it aware that just because one has F1 visa of 5 years, one shouldn't just assume they can stay for 5 years. Their legal stay period is defined at the port of entry, not by the F1 visa validity. If circumstances changes, they can legally stay even for 10 years or more even if they have F1 visa for 5 years.

I have no stake in it, not my visa not my issue, just relating some information that I found interesting.
