I've been there myself with my 18 year old cat Rip Rap the hardest part was burying him Every so often I can still feel him jumping on my bed and laying down with me It's going to be hard, but you'll get through this.

I feel your pain Scott Tell yourself its probably the best thing you can do fer her to end her suffering, and then she will be looking after you from up above.

My 10 y-o cat got sick really quick in January 2006 and I had to put him to sleep after only 2 days. It was fast and unexpected. I still cry sometimes when I look at his pictures. We now own 2 kittens and here's a funny thing. The male was all black when we got him 1 month ago, now in the sun light, you can see in the reflection of his fur some tabby stripes......my old cat was a tabby and I take it as a sign that his presence is still in our house.

I was there with my 14 yr old cat pezo. I hope everything will be ok, losing a member of your family is never easy. I still cry for pezo every now and then. Its been 6 months and i still miss her horribly.

Be strong and know your kitty wont be suffering any longer. hugs !

She's gone ...the last few days, due to the pain meds, she had a little more of her former self, even ate some food today. I took her in an hour ago. I was there when the vet gave her the injection; Vicky was gone in a matter of seconds. She is being cremated, and we will retain the ashes.

I want to thank everyone for your kind words, they are appreciated. I especially liked what LisaD and Nagishkaw said; I do believe that in the New Creation, our beloved animals will be there, and we will be reunited with them.

We have a huge Vicky-shaped hole in our hearts right now....t'will be a long while getting through this.

We already have Vicky's successor (she can never be "replaced," only succeeded)! We went to the National Cat Protection Society, which has kitties for adoption, as well as "retiring" older cats, letting them live out their lives. We didn't really expect to walk out with a new kitty so fast; we were just starting the process of looking for one. We found a two year-old female Linx-Siamese mix, "Chloe," that Lai liked right away...good-natured, and the beautiful Siamese-type colouring and blue eyes. She's very quiet and calm...spent most of the drive home relaxing in the carry-box, though at times she would get impatient and claw at the sides, mewing softly. The pain from Vicky's loss will be with us for some time, but Chloe will help the healing. Pictures will follow

I am so sorry for your loss. Saying goodbye to a beloved friend is never easy even when you know it is something that is necessary. You are wise to find another cat with whom to share your love. Your new family member will help to heal the rift left by Vicky's loss, and you are giving a new home to an animal in need of one. Vicky will never really be gone while she lives in your memories and soon the happy ones will outnumber the sad ones from her passing.

I am also thinking that this day is going to come for me soon...I have a cat that is 19 years old and sometimes he is just so sick

Sorry about your cat, but at least you did all so she wouldn't suffer.

I also lost one of my favorite cats last week, and I wasn't even there, he was killed by one of the dogs at my farm. He was just the sweetest cat and left us early (he was only 6 years old).
