I'm filing I-751, and realize that back then when we did the intiial petition, we were pretty ignorant thinking that my husband (naturalized U.S. citizen) doesn't have any Alien registration number. But as naturalized versus born here, he does have one which is right there on his naturalization certificate. So now on the I-751 form, should we put that alien registration number down? Or still not put anything down to avoid inconsistency with the prior forms?

I’m thinking he provided a copy of the naturalization form with his I130 petition, and they knew where to find it.  This time around just fill out with the #.  Though in the end they already have it. It’s just being tidy.

@tiantian2, you can but you do not need to. Your naturalized spouse is no longer an alien. We did not include my naturalization certificate number. We simply included a copy of my unexpired US Passport.

If no longer an alien, does that mean the alien registration numebr on naturalization certificate is not really valid/in effect?

If we still don't put down the number on the I-751, then should it be left blank, N/A, or none?

@USC4SPOUSE Thank you!

I do not know if the alien number on the naturalization certificate is not really valid or in effect. I can tell you that I have never had to refer to that number. I am a naturalized citizen. We did not include that number. We put N/A. I do not even have that number anymore. When I naturalized, you had to submit your Naturalization certificate to get your passport. At the time, it was also illegal to make copies of the naturalization certificate. Some people would get the certificate back after the dept of state would process their passports but some did not. I was one of the people who did not get it back. I have never cared to replace it. I just renew my passport before it expires and that's it.

It was never illegal to make naturalization certificate copies. It was illegal to make 'color' copies of the certificate.

Good to know! During my inital petition I made color copy of all the essential ID stuff including the naturalization certificate haha. It almost look real.

You know @Thunderbolt, it was so long ago that I do not recall the disclaimer on the certificate.

The i-751 is for immigrants married to US citizens (or now divorced from said US citizen) who need to remove the conditions on their conditional greencard. This means that if the form asks for the US citizens A-number, there's a reason for it. They clearly use it for something or they wouldn't bother putting it on the form in the first place.

So put the US citizen's A-number on the form.

Form I-751 is also for conditional residents that were petitioned by their LPR spouses; i.e. an F2A case: https://www.dhs.gov/immigration-statistics/lawful-permanent-residents/ImmigrantCOA It has become more common in recent years because F2A has remained "Current" since the July 2019 visa bulletin: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2019/visa-bulletin-for-july-2019.html

Thus why Part 4 in the form says "U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident Spouse." Also see INA 216(h)(1)(C)

Mine was also very long time ago, but I had to dig it out for my wife's application. The disclaimer was actually a stamp next to the photo stating: "Do not make color copies".

I don't know why it was like that.

Yes! I remember that now. It did say "do not make color copies". Unfortunately, I sent it in to get my first passport and I did not get it back. Since I do not have the certificate number anywhere, I did not include it on our AOS filing or the I-751. So that is that.
