good lord this is dumb

Well, yeah, it IS kind of dumb! I think there is a very valid point to make about privacy, and how much we can trust corporations with our information. I don't trust them reflexively, but I also know that I have the choice to go elsewhere.

And lol, yeah, Izzes!!!

No one is forcing people to enter a contest. If people are uncomfortable with giving their vaccine status to a corporation, they can choose to sit this out. I don't understand why this is controversial in a free market economy.

Up is down and down is up, complaining for the sake of complaining, and FOMO is on Earth 2. Our state currently has a daily money prize to those who have been vaccinated. Everyone is entered regardless of if they want to or not, but we do have the right to refuse the money. Over in Delaware it's a little more iffy, as in they are giving away lots of prizes and money to vaccinated kids (and offering prize winnings to kids is a bit odd frankly, because you can't tell me it won't actually be going to the parents).

But this airline contest requires the person consents to.. well, enter the contest. So what's the big deal? No one is forcing you.

Yes.

Some people (certainly nobody here) see everything through the lens of politics and social identity. This weekend, on a beautiful sunny three day holiday, some boaters decided they didn't like another boat flying the pride flag. So they circled around them, hurled profanity at them, and were just generally nuisances. (and then their boat caught on fire and they had to rely on the people with the pride flag to rescue them, but that's another thread). Rather than just enjoy the day and have some fun on the water, they had to turn it into a confrontation. It must be exhausting to see every single interaction with the world to be a threat to your privacy or freedom or values, or whatever.
