Is it possible to request for an interview in a country other than that of your residence?

I have already applied for I-130 and it has been almost a year I want to request for argent interview for my husband and I need someone to guide me to how I can request for and is it possible?

Have you received the approval letter for your I-130 petition?  No way to get an interview until after the petition has been approved and sent to NVC.

I wish we could change Consulates. I have dual citizenship Canada/Ireland but have no proof of residency in Ireland :(

Oh well, here's hoping we hear something soon

I am not sure you need proof of residency in a country if you are a citizen. It may be worth giving NVC a call and asking. You are probably eligible for interview in Ireland. Keep in mind, you would need to get a police clearance from there.

That being said, you are next in line in Montreal, and the delay (even if just a month or two) in transfer to Ireland would probably mean you would have your interview sooner in Montreal if you just stayed with Montreal.

Very true, and with Covid travel restrictions this late in the game it's not worth the hassle. Although I trip to Ireland to visit my parents home land would be nice ;) The hubs and I will have to venture there at a later date

Absolutely! Really hoping you get your interview letter this week or next.

I'll hopefully let you know in 3-4 weeks! I'm not Colombian, but I've lived here for 7 years and my Colombian visa expired during the pandemic last year in July. I wasn't even able to re-apply until November. I didn't re-apply as I thought my US visa would have cleared shortly after that, but here we are 6-7 months later...

Waiting on Bogota's US embassy to hit me up and schedule an interview. I think there's a solid chance they'll kick me to the curb, and tell me to interview in my home country, so I'm mentally-preparing for that right now.

My wife is a US and Colombian passport holder, but I doubt that'll be of any significance for my status. I also have a police certificate for Colombia, and am able to easily produce a new one online. It's bizarrely easy to obtain compared to some of the other ones I've laboriously had to track-down.

Yeah, because your Columbian visa expired, your case is a little iffy, but I still see a case to be made. Hopefully NVC will too. I am guessing Columbian Consulate is faster than London?

If you still have a long wait ahead of you with London and the queue at the Columbian consulate is shorter, why don't you apply for renewal of your resident visa in Columbia? Then NVC would almost definitely approve your request to interview there.

No idea! The US embassy in Bogota started doing immigrant visas again 1-MAR-2021, so I imagine there'll be quite a backlog. However, they do state that they favour IR-1 after emergencies so, hopefully, it doesn't take too long. NVC sent my stuff to them a week ago, so it'd be nice to hear from them in the next 3-4 weeks. I know that the embassy in Seoul and Tokyo only take about a month to book your interview according to some friends, but I've seen some horror stories on here from people in-limbo waiting to hear back from some Mexican-based US embassies for months and months!

I think the London embassy would be pretty straightforward. The current issue is that the UK government won't accept travelers directly from Colombia unless they pay over $2,000 to stay in a specific hotel to quarantine for 10-days. It means I'd have to use the US as a buffer, as a tourist, before travelling to the UK.

The Colombian government have moved the goalposts since I last had a visa. It would be really, really, really complicated to get a new one and they won't just renew my visa like they had done, twice, over the last 6 years.

Ouch! Sounds like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place...Hopefully you hear something positive from the Columbian Consulate. Good luck and let us know how it goes...

Yes, I used to live in Singapore between 2009 and 2018, and I know that the Singapore embassy schedules your interview within 2 weeks of case complete. Unfortunately, I am no longer eligible for an interview there, nor can I enter the country because of the pandemic. Meanwhile, I am looking at a 9-10 months wait at the embassy of my current residence - Montreal. So yeah, wait times differ vastly between consulates. I think I heard that London is very backlogged as well unfortunately (though not as bad as Montreal), but I can't confirm that.

I am in Canada and Montreal embassy is super backed up, such that wait times are in the order of 9 months to more than a year.

Is it possible to request an interview in another country that is not backlogged? Seems logical to enable sharing of workloads between embassies...

How can we know the backlog at Montreal embassy for each visa class!
