Hello everyone,

me and my brother both got our citizenship through naturalization from our mom who became an American citizen before we were 18. So we both went through the process of proofing it through passport which we both got them. We both get a letter saying we got to go to social security place to change the status. My brother told me we have to fill out form I-539A and pay an additional fee ? I read what the form was for but it seems like it doesn’t apply to us. Any advice of what we have to do next ?

There is no further form required. If you already have passports that is all the proof of citizenship you need. (I539 in particular is for non immigrants and has nothing at all to do with your case.)

That is what I thought too. So I don’t need to go to the social security place to change my status?

All you need to do is go to SS office and tell them you are there to update your citizenship status. That's it. No fee. They may give you SS-5 form to fill out. No payment is required.

Possibly form SS-5, to apply for a SS card.  I-539 does not apply at all.

Sadly all the offices are closed, so I am assuming that I have to print and send them the copy along with my passport

Correct.
If you fear passports may be lost in the mail, you can wait to update that till offices are open.

Keep calling for an appointment. It may take you a few tries but you might get someone to schedule one for you. I had to call 4 times I think before I got someone to schedule. The other times they just hung up and said emergencies only, but we got in and didn't have to mail in green cards which we didn't want to do. Not sure why most of the country is open but the social security offices.

My wife came to the US on an F1 visa about 10 years ago.

Brockton SSA office wanted the original passport and greencard when my wife tried to apply.  I called the Worcester office and they said just to send the SS-5 along with a copy of the documents, and they would contact us to schedule an in-office appointment to process it.  That is how we got an appointment.

Form SS-5 and your passport.

Make sure all the information on form SS5 matches what you. originally wrote except you now check the citizen box.

Send this to them with a letter stating the purpose of the SS5 is to update your citizenship status.
