For me, and the majority of Americans, DACA is the right thing to do morally, for society, and just practical  common  sense. Being for DACA doesn't depriotize repairing a bureaucratic and broken immigration  system, for everyone.

Why not both? Well, for one thing, everytime immigration reform comes up, the nativist forces start druming their BS and the Miller, Cruz and Hawley's of the world start with the demagoguery and Fox News plays along the noise even though Murdoch is an immigrant who became  citizen just to gain ownership of US TV stations to build his financial empire.

Many of us on here want something done about the original DACA recipients not recent years. The problem is that many politicians on both sides want to tie it to some BS wishlist of demands that ultimately kills the deal. The DACA recipients are my age (mid-30's) so they are not young anymore as what Democrats want you to think.

Also we as a country do need to move to merit based immigration program which the vast majority of 1st world countries have. Even if we moved to a merit based system you can still petition for fiances, spouses, and kids. But it gets deried by Democrats for being "racist and xenophobic". What's funny to me is that Leftists love to tout Canada and we should be more like them but think their immigration system is "racist"

As I stated twice in this thread, I agree that the parties play political football with immigration reform. I don't care if the DACA children are 50 now, this is their home.

Not to be picky,  but the terms 1st world and 3rd world  became passe when the Berlin Wall came down.

Hmm, and yet you only criticized GOP members of Congress.  As I said before, the border has to be secured first, but many in DC want nothing to do with that.  If DACA is fixed for those in that category today, tomorrow, we will have a lot more people coming here that will also need something done for them.

The Republicans had the house senate and Whitehouse and massively  increased spending on the problem, was any real progressive  made? Besides most "illegal" immigration is from folks who fly here legally.

You can't let the perfect be the enemy  of the good. Fix the current immigration bureaucracy, increase immigration based on skills, a firm but humane presence on the border,  shorten the backlog in the immigration courts, create a set of laws and regulations that make sense for the 21st century.

Umm, yes, just a page back.  Btw, the Dems had the House and Senate (with huge majorities in both) and the WH from 2009-2011, so what was fixed then?  The problem was there back then.  As to the laws, I don't think the US is out-of-step with most countries out there.  There are differences of course, but most every country has its bureaucracies when it comes to immigration.  No one is saying perfect needs to happen, but there are standard things that have to happen to get out of this circular process.  How many times have immigration legislation been passed that "fixes" the illegal issue with the promise to shore up the border and for some reason that promise is not kept in the end.  When people see this, it is an enticement for others.  Trump tried to do something about the border security and of course he was laughed at and criticized by the Left (MSM and politicians).  Now we have Old Joe inviting folks to find a way in and the issue particularly at the Southern border has exploded.

Not much, immigration from the southern border did decrease, but that was more about the great recession. Truthfully though, do you think the average voter understands where the system is broken as well as folks in this forum?
