My spouse had her B1/B2 visa a few years ago, and was approved. There is a huge concern about if the following would be considered material. During my spouse's interview, the consular officer asked:

CO: Who is (insert my name)? (I was listed as US point of contact and as "Friend", as no BF option available)

Spouse: He's my friend.

CO: Boyfriend/Girlfriend?

Spouse: (panicked and blurted) Nope, a friend.

CO: Moves on to ask a bunch of others questions after.

We now are in the process of getting our CR-1, but extremely worried. My spouse has never misused the visa. My spouse has traveled ~10 times, one time questioned by CBP and later released with no issues, and always returns after a couple of weeks of visiting (never exceeding or even getting close to i-94 authorized period).

Our evidence submitted with our I-130 however, points to the start of our relationship happening a few months before that interview. We were bf/gf a few months prior to her visa interview. Now, I am so worried about the interview and what's going to be said/asked, and if this could be an issue. I just read so many things on here that makes me have a panic attack. Any thoughts?

I think it’s natural to be somewhat nervous about having said friend vs. boyfriend.

If that comes up be very mindful of how you explain things. You do not want to be accused of misrepresentation at the US port of entry.

you can always say there was a romantic interest but at the end of the day, at that point, you two were friends. It sounds me that’s what the situation may have been at that point, anyway.

i honestly doubt that will come up, though.

all the best.

I wouldn’t volunteer the information unprompted, but I would tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may if they ask about it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t come up at all.

Lying again could create greater consequences and you will be worried every time you go back for interviews (removal of conditions/citizenship).
