I need some help sorting this out. I contacted my Congressman concerning the delay of our visa being issued. My Congressman sent me the letter that was sent to him concerning our case from the embassy and it stated that my husband was approved for his visa and that the Embassy initiated security clearance of the case as required by the Homeland Security Act of 2002. The clearance is still pending.

I was fine with this until I checked with the US State Department to see if the Embassy had finally put information concerning our case in the registry and the answer I received was the case was under administrative review. I then asked if this meant that they were waiting for the security clearances to come back and I was told no, that it meant that the case was being reviewed at the Embassy in Riyadh.

Meanwhile, I have done some research online and found out that administrative review is not a good thing because it means either the Visa Petitioner or Beneficiary FAILED TO PASS the security name check or background check, or because the Consulate or State Department or Homeland Security NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE some issue or matter in the case more closely.

Has anyone had to go through this after your visa was approved? Or has anyone had to go through this at all and how long did it take? I was reading that it can take up to two years.

Please let me know the good and the bad.

Thanks!

I've also heard that ppl go into AR sometimes become of the petitioning country, in your case, Kenya..

THere's really nothing you or your congressman can do to speed this part of the step up..

some get cleared quickly, some take a few weeks-months

good luck

We are on AP/AR for almost 7 month now. Third world countries undergo this process frequently for high

fraud reasons.

Sometimes they make home investigations and verify documents and check backgrounds with a fine tooth comb.

The problem is they are not specific in exactly what they are checking and the timeframe is wide open.

You can email the embassy every 2 weeks or so and call DOS to give you a status update.

AP/AR is known as the black hole! :clock::girlwerewolf2xn:

Pam the terms of Administrative Review and Administrative Processing can vary depending on the consulate. Your case is being looked at more closely because of the two countries that your coming from Kenya and Riyadh and these persons are investigated more closely to rule out fraud as well as the name checks. Hang in there.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

Is there a timeline anywhere showing AR's done at the consulate level for investigation of some facts?
