Hello,

My parents while waiting to get their I-485 interviews had to travel outside the USA to India for a family medical situation.

Their AP document expires in October 2021.

I am wondering given the current travel ban from India due to Covid they might not be able to return to the USA before the validity of Advance Parole document.

What can be done to make sure they can return to the USA and the I-485 process continues?

Can they file for a "renewal" of AP while they are still in India?

Thanks

You can’t renew AP from outside the US.

They need to re-enter before their travel

document expires.  It’s like trying to enter on an expired visa.

The I131 instructons (page 2, 4 and 5) explain those situations.

Yours is not any of those.

They can return using their Advance Parole. The India COVID-ban is only for nonimmigrant-visa and ESTA travel: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2021/05/06/2021-09711/suspension-of-entry-as-nonimmigrants-of-certain-additional-persons-who-pose-a-risk-of-transmitting Thus, they can still travel directly to the US with their I-512 Advance Parole; they would be Paroled-in as "DA". Make sure they return before the documents expire.
