I've been asked twice during the pandemic by a Filipino Government Agency to come and do a seminar for them.  They didn't balk at the cost for the 2 weeks training, business class airfare and accommodations but "couldn't justify" the cost of another 2 weeks of quarantine cost plus my discounted fee for lounging at the Manila Sheraton.   Oh well. In the meantime I've been traveling the US and to other countries that understand the science.  Headed to the caribbean next week for 12 days and make more since I don't have to give a Pinay discount.   Even my wife can come along.   She bought 2 new suitcases - can't wait to see what she buys while I'm teaching ;)

Be hard for me to maintain a LDR that long without some face to face time

I thought it would be, too.  While it's difficult, it doesn't affect my resolve.  We were together for five years in PH beforehand, so that probably helped.  I can imagine a short relationship would have been very strained :)

Being together for awhile beforehand definitely helps.  I left the PI in January 2020 and had lived with my fiance for years beforehand so the Jan-Nov 2020 time we had to wait actually went quite fast.  Nowadays, there are so many that meet online and many can only get a few weeks off of work to go visit in the Philippines.  Its these relationships that will probably suffer the most.  A few weeks isnt enough time to get to know someone, then you throw in 15+ months apart and people change alot.  People can talk online everyday, but its the in-person experience where the relationship grows.  Plus being in-person eliminates all of the typical shenanigans that tends to go on with long-distance relationships involving the Philippines.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

I read some Youtube comment on some Youtubers in Philippines, I always get a chuckle when some guys says I am going to finally get to me meet my fiance in the Philippines when the travel ban is lifted, I always remind them until you spent face to face time with them, they are only a chatmate, most don't like the truth.

In laws IR5 in the pipeline since July 2019 but not too concerned with delays since they won’t travel alone and my wife wants me to fly over to bring them here. Until things open up without quarantine their interview can stay delayed.  More concerned about Middle East opening up as I’ve enjoyed not having any work travel as they don’t want to really pay me to sit in hotels for 14 days in each country I visit on a trip. The past year plus has been nice.

I'm in Texas the winter storm freeze screwed up so many water and gas lines, I just slowed down this week repairing these. Made almost a year salary in less than 3 months, it's unreal, it was like christmas came everyday

No I just cover it with travel for what seems like half my career.  My FSRs are the ones stuck living there.

Singapore is great.  Quite possibly the only utopia or close to it on earth.  I spent 5 years working there and couldnt really complain about anything.

Yeah I was so freaking mad when Covid happened and I had to back out. My asawa lives in Davao and it is a straight shot from Davao to Singapore, and the in laws were already planning to visit for weeks at a time.

Go check out some of the expat Youtubber who are always painting the Philippines with rose colored glasses, One dude is some aussie sounding guy who has some kind of dating site, and these guy believe everything he says, they act like they have found the one and writing stuff about the love of their lives and calling these girls they have never seen in person their true love and fiance, I get to bust dat ####### and gently remind them they are only chatmates.
