I figured I would ask this here.

My daughter has a friend in Iloilo City. She's been wanting to mail her a package but is afraid it will be sent back and be out $30 in shipping if things a closed. Does anyone know if shipping things can go through?

As long as it is send by FedEx, UPS or DHL it shouldn't be an issue arriving.   Most likely the shipping will cost more than the item.

If the item is available in the Philippines it would be cheaper to send the money and let her buy it there.

Exactly. The only way it is worth it to ship is a balikbayan box.

And with the BB box it will cost roughly $100 and can be 2-3 months to arrive

And beware that if shipping via DHL, FEDEX, and UPS, dutiable items with values over p10,000 (including the shipping cost) will probably incur duties and taxes.

Daughter was going to use USPS. I'm not sure what she is sending. Normally it's something she made and stuff her friend can't get there.

Thanks

Daughter  has sent her things before with USPS that part she is familiar with. She doesn't want to be out 30 bucks for them to send it back here.

Thanks

What service is that? I paid $90 per box with a total of 4 boxes sent.

Indiana Balikbayan and Makati Express.  They cover a good chunk of the midwest.   You can only drop off when they schedule trucks in the area.  They come to Minneapolis about every other month.  We have been using them for about a year and a half.

YMMV

I'm currently paying $59 per BB

I suspect that is a smaller size BB

Wife is paying $120 for BB, size is  24 x 18 x 24 some old Filipino dude comes to the house and picks it up, it shipped via Atlas Shippers.

I sent a huge BB box couple years ago to relative over there, with a lawn mower/Milwaukee Cordless Weed Eater, box was like 32 x 22 x 32 and it was like $250 to ship but it was biggest BB I have ever seen shipped, I had to get the box from a place that sells boxes only.

USPS turns into PhilPost when it reaches the Philippines..  PhilPost is "the blackhole"  most things disappear and stuff that makes it to be delivered is usually held for ransom.

It's Stupid to ship USPS to / from Philippines.

Many years ago a buddy sent me a letter from Philippines to my US address, it took 4 months to arrive
