And in the other direction, I believe there are some embassies/consulates that accept documents in one or more other languages beyond English and the native/official language of that country for one reason or another (to name a few -- residents of former Soviet Union countries frequently have documents in Russian and I think some of their embassies/consulates accept them, a few embassies/consulates handle multiple countries with different native languages, and also there are some countries with multiple native languages).

That’s why I pointed out that each consulate has its own rules and best way is to follow directions given directly by the consulate. I did find it odd that they requested notarized translations to be honest. I decided to test this at the interview, I handed my birth certificate only which is in both Russian and Kazakh and she right away asked me “where are the notarized translations”? So yeah. I’d probably would have been given 221g if I didn’t bring them.

I don't think it's consulate specific,  I simply think it is one odd consulate

YMMV

If I'm understanding this correctly, in AOS stage we need to submit translated documents along with the I-485 if they're in foreign language, right? It makes more sense to me to prepare in advance when preparing for the interview cause some of them are the same documents. (such as birth certificate, certified police records, and I've heard people got RFE for household registration so maybe this too. and of course this may vary for different cases.) These documents usually don't have expiration date problem.
