I just paid the immigration fee for my three stepkids who have received their visas. The A-number and IV numbers on the visa correspond with the receipt but receipt numbers are different from the original USCIS case numbers.

The problem is that there is no names connected to the case numbers to confirm anything.

I received an email stating:

Your payment was applied to the following case(s):
numbers are different from the original USCIS case numbers.

I can't get anyone on the phone at USCIS and have no idea. I am very nervous and confused. Please help.

Use the numbers on the visas.......You don't need the USCIS case numbers.  You are over thinking this.

Relax, the receipt numbers are new numbers associated with the fee payment. Nothing will happen wrt green card production until the kids enter the US. After that you can start tracking the status using the receipt numbers.

How do I know that it corresponds to the right cases? I am very upset right now thinking we paid for someone else.

But the case number corresponds with resident number.

What I did was add a 0 after the A (because it is only 8 digits)

Then, I left off the 01 at the end of the control number (3 letters + 10 numbers)

It generated the payments and accepted it.

Then the receipt generated different numbers than original USCIS numbers.

This is incredible.

As already said, don't overthink, you are past the USCIS phase, forget uscis case numbers. You probably paid using IV numbers and A numbers. That's good enough.

So new receipt numbers are generated through USCIS? Yes, the numbers correspond with names on the visas.

I wish that USCIS would generate names when paying the fee so as to confirm.

Yes, that’s what we are all saying. This way the new receipt number tracks green card production - what you just paid for - and not anything else to do with the case.

They don’t generate names for privacy issues, because anyone can type receipt numbers into uscis case status and see the status.

If you entered the correct A number when paying the fee, then the fee was connected to the correct new immigrant.  Relax.

Yes, I placed a 0 next to the A because it was only 8 numbers. The IV number: I left off the last 01 for each.

On the receipt, the IV corresponds perfectly and only the last four digits of the A# shows up (but I did double and triple check the numbers before submitting payment).

I just panicked when I received the email:

"Your payment was applied to the following case(s)" ... and the receipt numbers did not correspond with the original USCIS number.

It has been incredibly stressful for our family. We took time off from work to travel to the interview last week and we are returning next week to pick up the kids. Covid also complicates travel as well. My wife and I decided that we aren't traveling for a while after all of this is over. We need space to relax.

If you mean the original numbers for your kids' petitions, USCIS won't reuse those because your kids' cases are already closed.  The petitions were approved and they already got their visas.  Green card production would be a new case with USCIS, so the immigrant fee payment would generate new receipt numbers.

Don't worry about old USCIS numbers because you've crossed that bridge already. Use the new immigrant fee receipt numbers to track the progress/production of your green card going forward.
