I agree, the political elite (from either Party) want to make it unattractive for anyone else to force their way into their midst, but that in itself is a graver threat to the US democracy.

Trump is being pursued because he is a criminal. Every New Yorker knows that. It doesn't need to be explained, it only needs to be proven in the court of law.

Being a criminal, he continued his criminal enterprise while in public office. Again, no need to explain the obvious, just needs to be methodically prosecuted.

I don't care about or like politicians any more than you do. Elites will have to work things out in their own elite ways. Your disdain towards out political system is understandable. However, it is the system we have. Democracy, in simple terms, means free and frequent elections of public officers by the said public. Anything and anybody that gets in the way of that should be dealt with by the democratic system itself.

So the old guilty until proven innocent theory.  You assert every New Yorker believes Trump is a criminal, how would you prove that?  I realize you don’t like the guy, I don’t really like him much either, but his political positions were much more palatable than the drivel we get from the regressive Democrats that only seem intent on maintaining a divided country so their favorites can grift money as much as possible.  
 

There are a lot of people that do not like the way our current political class has evolved into an elite leadership class above the law.  I go back to your assertion that every New Yorker knows Trump is a criminal, I’ll bet many of them don’t feel the same way about the grifters that moved to NY after January 2001 even though there is mounds of evidence to the contrary.  A lot of people that feel our DC political class has gotten too big for its britches voted in Trump over a career grifter in 2016.  Of course one person is not going to change or drain the swamp as there are too many unelected bureaucrats in positions of power.  We will see what happens, but in the end, we need a fundamental change in DC, otherwise the trust in government across the country (NYC does not represent the entire country) will wane even lower, and no one will care what comes out of that cesspool.

 

Regardless, the DA in NY is just another career partisan politician, and everyone who cares to look can see what he is doing.

When former president Donald Trump weighed in on the criminal tax case against his business this weekend, some saw a tacit admission to the schemes the Trump Organization is accused of.

“They go after good, hard-working people for not paying taxes on a company car,” Trump said Saturday night at a rally in Sarasota, Fla. “You didn’t pay tax on the car or a company apartment. You used an apartment because you need an apartment because you have to travel too far where your house is. You didn’t pay tax. Or education for your grandchildren. I don’t even know. Do you have to? Does anybody know the answer to that stuff?”

"Republicans", "Democrats" are meaningless labels that tend to be filled with shifting meanings. However, what is clear is that Trump is neither. He is only interested in self, and, naturally, attracts people interested in the same: self. He's taken this interested to criminal levels, whether you want to believe it or not.

I don't care who how and when proves it, but the sooner it is, the better for this country.
