Will Democrats mask America forever?

by Kat Rosenfield - May 17, 2021

After a full year of staying home, social distancing, and keeping our faces covered, last week's announcementfrom the CDC was the one many of us had been waiting for: fully vaccinated Americans were finally cleared to get back to normal.  [...]

I believe within the next 6-10 months America will return to "normal"

Those who were scared about the virus will just silently move on after it's shown with each passing month it's "safe", not looking at the statistics of the matter for the past year and the backwards thinking that has gone on. This did show the Democrat leaders that they can push their states, and that it's easy to create division out of anything.

I do think at the latest, in 10 months- America will return to normal. There may be the few people to be around in close contact to others.. but I believe they will be a small percentage that even "lefties" will ignore.

As a Canadian though, I worry Canada is no longer going to be the country I was born in. It's gone down a scary path. Pastors are being arrested while Palestinian protestors flood the streets. It's much like America last year- however we also had the same issues last year.. and there's no end in sight. I don't see Canada returning to normal, not for at least 3-5 years. Canadians are too complacent and trust whatever is told to them.

I have no idea why anyone cares whether other people intend to continue to wear masks as the pandemic winds down. If you are permitted to ditch your mask in a setting, and you feel comfortable doing so, good for you. If you want to wear a mask in a setting where you aren't required to, good for you. I don't care. I follow our state and county laws which right now say outdoors fine if you're fully vaxxed (I am not), and indoors everyone wears a mask until June 15th. I may or may not wear a mask indoors in places like stores after that date depending on how busy/crowded it is. Variants are real. In places like the homes of friends and family who are fully vaxxed, sure, masks off.

Why should anyone get so bent out of shape about being judged? Or take other's choices so personally if they are following the law? True story, my husband nearly got into a fist fight on Friday with an antimasker who confronted him on the street for wearing a mask. The guy got in his face and told him, hey you, you can take your mask off now outdoors. My husband said, thanks, I'm good, and went back to minding his own business. The guy kept telling him he was brainwashed, and Al started getting more and more angry, and eventually swore (prodigiously) at him. (He is Scottish, it's a default setting I think.) The guy told him he wouldn't get into heaven that way, and he snapped. More swearing followed which I cannot repeat here but the red mist descended and he told the guy to keep walking or... there were suggestions made that are not family friendly. The guy then picked up a rock and started coming at him, and Al basically scared him off because he was a much bigger person than the antimasker. Al said he got very close to pounding this guy's head in but he stopped because... AOS in progress. He said all the rage he had in him over the past year+ at people who do not follow public health rules exploded. He was furious still 2 days later.

I'm not apologizing for what my husband did, which in the end was just a lot of swearing and scaring. Hey, he didn't go after the other guy with a rock! But why did this guy get in his face over a personal decision? Al wasn't hurting anyone, just waiting at the corner of National and Sepulveda for me to collect him from the dentist, reading the news on his phone, wearing a mask. Which as a person who is not fully vaccinated yet is understandable. (Also I am very unwell still, and he's being very careful of my health.) And even if he were fully vaxxed, WHO CARES? Go ahead and judge him, he doesn't care. Just move on. It's like wearing a sweater when it's 60F. Some people think it's not sweater weather, and others feel more comfortable wearing one. And if he judges other people silently, or under his breath, WHO CARES?

Do your own thing, within the law. Big whoop. Don't be a jerk and subject other people needlessly to the possibility of transmission.

Thanks. I think it's good to agree to disagree without being disagreeable!

I am angry about this too, sort of by osmosis. The idea of someone thinking about bashing my husband's head in with a rock for wearing a mask is terrifying. He said the guy didn't seem crazy or homeless or anything, just a rando.

Big whoop indeed. Yet there have been endless threads opining on how it's such a terrible thing. If someone is that threatened by a mask, how threatened are they by any sort of clothes? Such fragile snowflakes. The mental illness is real. Kids in cabinets, masks hurt muh freedoms, computer chip injections, and me getting vaccinated sheds particles that now makes them want to mask. Good on your husband, I would have knocked the person out.

Considering how politicized the mask wearing has been made in the MSM, not really surprising.  Wear a mask if you want, people do it all the time especially in countries like the ROK.

I'm pretty left-leaning and personally I will be happy to ditch mask wearing altogether when the time comes. My husband and I are fully vaccinated and at this point most of the people we interact with regularly are fully vaccinated also. We still take our masks with us whenever we go out and we wear it when it's required but leave it off when it's not. We live in Alabama and the state-wide mask mandate has expired, but the city I live in still has a mask mandate (I think through May 24th).

Alabama summers are brutal as it is...adding a mask during that kind of weather really sucks.

*SICK people

Definitely.  For some reason the entire mask narrative changed several times over the past year.  First it was don't wear the mask so as to not dry up the supply for the healthcare workers, then it was wear the mask so a person with a mild case of Covid does not spread it to others, now it seems to be some false sense of personal protection.  Now masks may offer a bit personal protection, the efficacy is questionable, but I agree, if one is sick, it is a good idea for someone to wear a mask.
