Interesting study although the data is a bit dated.  The factors though are probably the same.  I really don't see how the market will go 100% EV period, the best option to completely get rid of ICE vehicles would be fuel cell, but that will take a long time and require a massive infrastructure input.

1 in 5 EV Buyers Switch Back to Gas-Powered Cars: Study

Electric vehicles are poised to become a mainstay of transportation in the United States and abroad. Many countries are banning the sale of new internal combustion-powered vehicles around the year 2030, and with nearly every automaker having launched or already launching new EVs, the writing is on the wall.

But according to new research from Nature Energy, not everybody who takes the leap and buys an electric car sticks with the decision. In fact, around one in five people—or 20 percent—switch back to gasoline-powered cars. Why? Well, it's for a variety of reasons, as it turns out.

I agree.  So many seem to be ignoring the realities of the technology.  EVs have a market, but they are simply not for everyone.  The wife and I love to take long trips around the US, and despite the novelty of EV lovers saying they have driven across the country with their EV, no one discusses the amount of added time needed to make that trip.  In our case, when we have a destination chosen, our point is to maximize our time there, and not spend an hour every 200 miles to try and get another 200 miles when we can get 400-500 miles in a 5-10 minute pit stop.  Then there is the fact that not everyone lives in single family homes with the ability to wire their garages with a 220 circuit.  Try charging an EV with 110, or not at all if one lives in an apartment with unpredictable parking situations.  The point is there are a lot of factors, and EVs are not a panacea.  I do love when EV proponents tout the immediate acceleration of an EV, but that type of driving saps the batteries, so unless going to the local drag strip, who really cares.

I think Hybrids will be 50% of the market in the next few years

Someone needs to ask China nicely if they can please send us more chips.

And while they are at it can we have some lumber and plywood.

And can we get more antibiotics?

Or a better job for Hunter?

Depends.  Most of the EV trucks I am aware of weigh more than 10,000 lbs without any loads (most 1/2 ton trucks fall in the range of 6,000 to 8,500 lbs).  This may require the need for a different classification of license, and it may fall into a different vehicle classification.  Regardless, more road damage with a much heavier truck.

Some years ago, I came home, and this dialogue ensued:

Mrs. T-B.:  I bought you cheap.
T-B.:  What did you say?
Mrs. T-B.:  I bought you cheap.
T-B.:  You bought me cheap?  What the dickens does THAT mean?  I'm not that cheap.  And don't let Immigration hear you say that.
Mrs. T-B. [frustrated]:  Cheap, CHEAP!  I bought you CHEAP!

Further investigation revealed that she had gone to the store and bought me a bag of potato cheaps, si man. :bonk:

won't require a different class of license.  Most states don't require a CDL for a large motorhome, and those can get up to 40k lbs.  But a heavier vehicle will both require a larger battery and more charging.  And while more charging stations are becoming available, as you mentioned above - it increases trip time due to the slower charging vs refilling at the gas pump.

And as I point out to my "woke" EV friends, that electricity they are using doesn't come from the sun.
