Kate they are correct. He needed his passport stamped for 90 days of work authorization to work now. If not he will have to file for his EAD and once it is approved he will be able to work. Good luck.

thanks for your wisdom...

but then why even apply for a ss# before he has the ead? and is there anything else we should be applying for/getting in these few weeks before we get married and adjust status?

you guys are all the best!

thanks,

kate

Depends on what your state requires. For example, in some states, you cannot marry without a SSN or put someone on your bank account without one.

You'll have to do your own research and find out what makes most sense for you two.

Download yourself a copy of the I-765 petition and get an understanding of it.

Wait until you are married and file for the EAD. The initial authorization that is authorized in worthless because you will be married by the time it is received, and would be worthless upon arrival, and you would have to apply all over again.

Get the SSN ASAP to be able to work ASAP. It wont do a thing for him right now, but just gets another obstacle out of the way. If you dont apply pronto, you wont be able to get one until he actually has an EAD document and will delay his ability to work even more.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Even if he can't work, I'd apply for the SSN. You'll need it eventually, and it will come in useful for bank accounts, driver's license, etc.
