Hello so a bit of context befor the question. I’m the beneficiary, my fiancé and I are applying for the K1 visa, when we started this process back in April 2020 she had a non related cannabis job, then at the end of 2020 she changed her job and now is working in the cannabis industry. Our case got approved in January 2021 and now is sitting at NVC. So the question would be: Would it be a problem, either at the interview or any other time, for our case the fact that she is working in that industry now?

 thanks for the feedback

In various states there are legitimate Cannabis businesses that are registered as employers. I don't see why it would be an issue as long as this business is a legitimate company such as Ease, WeedMaps, Amaze and many others that can be found on LinkedIn for example, it is seen like another employement opportunity or organization. I, myself have applied to many as they are becoming a norm in the states and they operate very similar to corporate businesses asides from how they are taxed and federally viewed.

The interview is based on (correct me if i'm wrong) the legitimacy of your relationship, where you'll be living, what you know of your fiance and disclose items that may have turned up on your fiances background check and more details on your fiancce. They may ask if you know that she works there but you answer honestly, and genuinely. I wouldn't worry about.

Thank you so much for your response!! Yes her company is a legitimate business in Michigan, our biggest worry was that as immigration is at the federal level that was gonna be a problem because the money she is earning to sponsor me is from cannabis which is not federally legal and that was gonna be a reason for denial at some point in this process.

Thats really interesting to point out. The fact that she reports her income though to the federal government and you've made it this far inregards to meeting the poverty limits - I would let this be one of those things you can stop worrying about 🙂 Its such an interesting place here - The State of California has government jobs in Cannabis itself - so not to worry. They are "horticultural" :)
