Depends if the ribbon is accompanied by a bunch of "Yay Jesus" or other slogans promoting political parties - seems to be no shortage of people willing to shill for various causes.

In themselves I think bumper stickers are rather trite IMO.

Well I am wondering what you think about this, beside for an almost non-existent percentage of sick people, do you think anyone wants to see any harm done to our troops? So to me, it meaning what it says, it does not. And I guess the more I have thought about that saying, over the past years, I guess, support your troops, I do not, I do not find this war very noble or honest in the least, and really i believe it is alot of innocent deaths that are happening needlessly. But to ever say I would wish harm pon them or any other person that is caught in this bloodbath I would not!

I think the sticker means what it says "Support the Troops". There have been cases in US history where Troops returning from a War that was not supported by some Americans where treated very poorly by those same Americans upon their return. To me the sticker means; write a soldier a letter, send a soldier a goodie bag, do something to support the Troops.

While some find reasons to not believe the War is noble there are others who do. Personally, I support the War and the Troops. As for terrorism in general, I am much more concerned about being killed by a fellow American than a Terrorist.

I’m not interested in debating the War; I’m only responding that I think the sticker means what it says.

There are different ways to look at it. The soldiers in the current conflict are there by choice. The choose to support the current policy in Iraq. Indirectly, by supporting their choice, you are supporting the policy. It would be different, if soldiers were forced to fight without any choice (Drafted).

Yes, but I have one that says "Visualize Whirled Peas" and it's pretty awesome, I have to say :)

Although there is nothing at wrong with the sentiment on the sticker, I do find people who slap them on SUVs to be a bit stupid, or wonder if they at least have a rich appreciation of irony.

Well, I don't personally have one of those stickers, but I do support our men and women fighting. I do so because I am the daughter of a career Air Force man. He did 3 tours of Viet Nam, even though he wholeheartedly did not support that war, but he had a job to do. I know that 2 of my brothers served in the military to help pay for college, and though neither of them had to go to war, one of my brothers did spend time on the Nimitz near Lebanon. When the first Desert Storm began, several of my high school friends, who joined the military after graduation to help pay for college, were sent. I currently have 2 former students serving in Iraq. I don't think either of them support the war, but there options after high school weren't many, and the military did offer them a way to pay for college, plus a sign on bonus. Neither thought they'd be deployed.

I'm saying that it is possible to support our troops even if you don't agree with the policy of this war. I wholeheartedly do NOT support this war. Never have, never will. However, I do support those that I know and care for who are serving in Iraq right now. I support the military men and women everywhere doing jobs that I'd never be willing to do (to be blunt!). They aren't all supportive of the war, they aren't all monsters....

Did I make any sense? It's late here.

I'm torn about the car ribbons...sometimes they come across all 'LOOKIT WHAT A GOOD AMERICAN I AM!'

I generally think the ribbons are so stupid....so you can wear a pink one for BC, rainbow one for AIDS, yellow for troops, and so on and so forth. Does that mean that I have to wear all of them to show I support all those causes, or is it a cause du jour scenario?

I remember one celeb who didn't wear an AIDS ribbon to a function, and (s)he caught so much flak for it. I can't even remember who it was, but this person said 'does anyone really need to wear a ribbon to illustrate that one is for AIDS awareness?'

Although, with the troop one...if it makes someone else think of the troops, someone who might not have otherwise done so....then I can't see it as a bad thing. The men and women over there deserve our full support as they are our country's heroes. I, however, like to show my support with action, and not just some ribbon.

So no, I can't see me ever putting a ribbon of any sort on my car. But I have nothing against those who do.

IMO, large number of bumper stickers on one car has a more obvious indication--that these are holding the car's bodywork together.

No, they don't. They choose to serve their country despite their political views.

But you still choose to serve, no one is forcing them to.

They choose to serve because they are true patriots dedicated to the ideals of this country.

That their patriotism is exploited in a series of pointless wars based on lies designed to fill

the pockets of military contractors is hardly their fault.

With all due respect, I definitely disagree full heartedly. I do not think they are true patriots. I do not think that they are not true patriots either. They do not do this cause they are so dedicated to the ideals of this country. If that was true their would have not been one enlistment in the last 5 years. They do it cause of the money it offers. Or because of the rewards it holds once you are out. But because of the ideals this country was founded upon and because they are "true patriots", be careful of believing everything this administration is feeding you!
