I am sure it depends on location  but it's great to hear she was able to receive it within 2 months.

Its very location dependent.  Call one office, if you dont like the answer try another.

We tried one office in early March, told us no in-person appointments.  We had to mail all documents in, including original passport.  I tried another office and they said they can make an appointment, will have someone call us back.  Less than an hour later, someone called for next day appointment.  When we got to the SS office the next day, we were the only ones there.  We werent allowed inside the office but sat in a hallway.  At the specified time, someone came out and collected our documents, reviewed them and said they were OK.  About 2-3 weeks later, we had the card in the mail.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

We didn't do it during the pandemic, but they did take their time when my wife got her number a couple years ago (something about the PoE airport being slow to send their arrival information along).

I think the key to getting them to do it before getting stuck in that weird in-between state for AOS where SSA doesn't like to issue numbers, was to really push them as frequently as possible to check in on the case and move things along (generally calling/visiting them as soon as the previous visit letter said we could follow up, generally every 2-3 weeks).

3-4 visits later, they finally told the number on the last visit and said the card would be arriving in a few days.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

It is good u asked before your June 4th interview as it is important you apply ASAP (after marriage ) for this using the I 94 gotten upon entry to the US

i do not know this process as i did spouse visa but now that others know you are not yet in the US ,  they will guide you with the process for SS card

Also is the pending immigrant a  male under age 26?   if so,  he needs to register for Selective service

Good luck in interview

Thank you for your help!  I was wondering was do you think it's better to apply for a SSN after marriage and not before?

We were planning to do it before, as it is what others advised here on the forum. there won't be any name changing.

Thanks

Hello everyone :)

I am curious to know if anyone has been able to receive their SSN with little to no delays  during the lockdown, as most SSA office are still closed.

Thank you!

I got mine 2 weeks (apply Feb 10,2021) got married Feb 14,2021. SSN come in maiden name,i change my ssn into married name April 02,2021 using Marriage certificate and Military id (come in mailbox 10 days) but it really depends on ur location,my ssa office near here isn't in a big city so maybe less people apply for ssn.

What's fun is that the Clerk of Courts office where we got married on May 1st is telling us they need 4-12 weeks to get our certificate out to us. I'm wondering if I can apply for the SSN and I-485 using an online record of our marriage (which has been recorded) and provide them with a link or something. And we still have to process a name change at the local circuit court since they don't do the name change during marriage in the state where we married.

If you're applying for a SSN during the 75 day period of your I-94, you must apply in your maiden name because that's the name DHS has on file and that's the name on your immigration document (passport/visa/I-94).

After getting married, you can use the marriage certificate/court order to update the name on the SSN.

Btw what state do you live in that doesn't allow change of last name after marriage?
