Well, I've made it this far. I'm in the States, my loving fiance is now my loving wife, and I'm twidding my thumbs while the California Service Center processes my application to adjust my status... But there's a problem!

I was so careful to do everything they asked of me, but still managed to miss something out. Yesterday, I got a "Notice of Action" from California asking me to send in a missing I-693 (not an I-693a) form. Apparently, I should've handed the form to the doctor for him to fill-in during the medical in London, and I was also supposed to sign it in his presence.

Needless to say, I don't have an I-693 to send in, and it seems that the only way to get one is to have a second medical in America. I felt very stressed when I had the first one (it's a 'guy' thing") and was so relieved to get it over and done with, plus, I'm having to be very careful with money right now, and who knows what it'll cost to undergo a second medical in the States.

So, has anyone out there been in the same position as me, and if so, was there anything you were able to do to avoid an expensive and dreaded second medical?

Thanks!

I had the same situation with my wife AOS in CSC. I will tell you simply to go ahead and get the medical done here. If you want to waste time go do the info pass thing but it will not help as they send us the letter clearly saying "they cannot locate the medical submitted done prior to our arrival in USA". I called CSC and she told me if it say I693 and NOT I693A you have to get the whole medical done. It cost me $200 but was worth it . Again just bite the bullet and get it done here in US. It will be less then $300 if you shop around. Good Luck

So, they lose it, and I have to pay twice!... That's great... for them!... If countries were companies, I think they'd go bankrupt very quickly!

But anyway, surely the original doctor still has a record, so couldn't he re-submit it or something?

Actually, when I had the medical, the doctor held the report back while he sought clarification from my GP about a minor medical matter. As a result, when I went to the embassy for the interview, they, at that time, had not received the papers from the doctor. I followed it through and it seemed to all sort itself out after a week or two, but I wonder if that could have something to do with the missing I-693.

This sounds like an RFE to me (Request for Further Evidence). As said above, I assume they lost or misplaced your medical. An infopass appointment might help to locate your original medical reports.

Ah, it looks like I'm going to have to get it redone after all, but I'm really pissed about it! They make all the rules, and you have to abide by them, however unfair they are, or you get dumped right back at square one!... Hmmmm, I know what you're thinking, whoever said life was fair?

My wife had her exam a few days before the interview and the Doctor put everything into a sealed black packet to take to the interview. After the interview she was given a yellow evelop with all the documents from the interview, it was also sealed and said do not open. At the POE the border patrol agent opened the packet and scanned through it. He then put it together with the I-94 info and I assume he sends it to USCIS office or the NVC but I am not sure. The medical exam was in this packet and we were never given a copy. I am worried that we all have to possibility of getting this same RFE. I wonder if the Doctor keeps a copy?

What you described is normal. I'm not 100% sure where it is sent after the POE gets ahold of it, but I'm guessing it goes to a USCIS office.

Some get the RFE and some don't but I wouldn't worry about it. It'll just cause extra stress for you for nothing. ;)

Perhaps you are another person who had their paperwork lost bu USCIS? My CS in Germany sent my entire medical exam over to the embassy. Before I came here, the embassy mailed me the medical in the sealed brown envelope. I showed that to the IO when I went through the POE in Chicago.

It sounds like they lost your medical.

Man, this has been happening ALOT within these past weeks. What the heck is going on?

Anyway, to the OP, someone else had this same problem and called her Congressman. The Congressman called USCIS and the paperwork was found. They didn't lose it, from what I remember the poster saying, it just got put in the wrong file. Try this first before spending more money on something that is THEIR freaking fault. You can try complaining to the Ombudsman too. Maybe if more people complain to the Ombudsman, something will change.

Geez, is this a conspiracy or something for the gov to make more money? Too many lost files recently and it makes no darn sense.

Yeah I remember reading that on this forum somewhere too... something about there being a temporary file and permanent file, and while the medical was forgotten in the temporary file all other info was moved to the permanent file.

I would agree thast it might be a good idea to contact your congressperson first to find out exactly what is going on. and confirm what is required and what has happened. I have had to do this several times. They have a direct link to the powers that be and it may not take long. I had a query in tracking down my I 360 petition. I didn't know what the hell had happened to it. Apparently it was still stuck at the Immigration Court. Within 3 days the file was sent to where it should have been-back on Vermont's desk.

In my experience my congressperson was excellent and I got results fast.

Thanks... Yes, I think Ill try the infopass thing first, as the local office is not far, and I'll also try the other suggestion of trying to get a copy of my examination from the original doctor, in the hope that I can get it transcribed. I've got until September, so I guess I can afford to try a few things first, but I have a strong suspicion that I'll end up having to get another medical done.

I was so careful to do everything they asked of me, but still managed to miss something out.

Good Luck

I'm not sure about contacting my Congressman. I mean, is it worth making waves at this point, and being seen as a potential troublemaker? Maybe it could cause more problems for me in the long run.
