Well, I've made it this far. I'm in the States, my loving fiance is now my loving wife, and I'm twidding my thumbs while the California Service Center processes my application to adjust my status... But there's a problem!

I was so careful to do everything they asked of me, but still managed to miss something out. Yesterday, I got a "Notice of Action" from California asking me to send in a missing I-693 (not an I-693a) form. Apparently, I should've handed the form to the doctor for him to fill-in during the medical in London, and I was also supposed to sign it in his presence.

Needless to say, I don't have an I-693 to send in, and it seems that the only way to get one is to have a second medical in America. I felt very stressed when I had the first one (it's a 'guy' thing") and was so relieved to get it over and done with, plus, I'm having to be very careful with money right now, and who knows what it'll cost to undergo a second medical in the States.

So, has anyone out there been in the same position as me, and if so, was there anything you were able to do to avoid an expensive and dreaded second medical?

Thanks!

As long as your previous medical exam in your home country was less than one year ago, you do not need another full medical exam.

Did you receive a copy of the "Vaccination Worksheet" at your medical exam? If so, you can take that to a civil surgeon in the U.S. and they can transfer the information from the worksheet onto the "Vaccination Supplement" (which is the I-693A).

We were charged $35.00 for this service. I had to call around to quite a few civil surgeons in our area to get a good price because every doctor's price was different and some were very high.

Good luck.

Hi, and thanks for the info.

Yes, I had the medical last September, and yes, I do have a copy of the vaccination worksheet. But wouldn't that just give me an I-693a, and not an an I-693, which is what they are asking me for? I downloaded and printed out an I-693 and it seems to be quite detailed.

Weird. Earlier today, I called the Doctor's office in London and the receptionist said they had never heard of an I-693, and that all the forms they dealt with began with "DS". But anyway, you were in a similar situation and it worked for you, so I'm taking your advice on this one. Thanks again!

I-693 is the form the doc filled out at your medical in your home country.

I think you're right, the once in foreign country start with DS (medical exam forms), but the form for the civil surgeon to fill out is I-693. You should be fine if your medical exam is less than a year old.

Thanks. $225 is a lot less than I expected... cheaper than London, actually. Still, I've been told on visa journey that as I had the medical in London last September, all I now need is an I-693a vaccination supplement, which I can get transferred from the vaccination worksheet for about $35. So, I'm going to give that a go first and keep my fingers crossed that they accept it.

Well, wait a minute. Are you saying that you got a RFE for the I-693, the medical exam itself? If so... I don't know much so I could just be missing something, but doesn't that mean that they LOST his medical and he needs to get a new one done?

RobJR, can you type out what the notice of action says word for word? Maybe that'll help us figure out exactly what this RFE is looking for.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. You've certainly been a lot more helpful than the service center. I called them 3 times yesterday, explained the problem 3 times to 3 different people, and got 3 completely different answers... that is, if you regard "I don't know" as an answer, which was #2's response.

And the US Embassy in London are even worse, because you have to pay $16.00 for every 7 minutes to get their pearls of wisdom... and 7 minutes doesn't go far when you're trying to get answers from the embassy!

I agree with Angilla...maybe they have lost or misplaced your medical...if that's the case, you would have to go for another medical here in the US (even though your 1 st medical was done less than a year ago). You could schedule an infopass appointment and see if someone can locate your original medical. Good luck!

Hmmmmm! I don't know what an RFE is, but I had a blue sheet, I-797E, Notice of Action, giving me until Sept. 18th to submit the requested info. The "requested info" is on an attached white sheet. It's headed "Request for Additional Evidence (I-485)"

Then there's some info about medicals etc., and the final paragraph says:

"I-693 Medical Examination: Please submit a properly completed and signed Form 1-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. The medical examination must be conducted by a physician who is on the list of Civil Surgeons approved by USCIS."

Yes, this is an RFE (Request For Evidence). I would schedule an infopass appointment and see if they can find your medical (may be misplaced somewhere in your file) as someone already suggested and if they can't find anything, looks like you're going to have to find a CS and pay for another medical.

This sounds like an RFE to me (Request for Further Evidence). As said above, I assume they lost or misplaced your medical. An infopass appointment might help to locate your original medical reports.

If your medical remains lost you will have to go for another medical...

A RFE is a request for further evidence - and that seems like what you've received. It seems like the lovely USCIS has either lost or misplaced your medical exam information. I would suggest making an Infopass with your local office to see if they can straighten things out... if not, you'll need a whole new medical. :(
