Hello, my husband was DQ for IR1 visa on March 5th, 2021. I know there is long wait time at the Montreal consulate, but is there an estimate? We are looking to purchase a new build house and need an ETA for the closing. Thank you

Expect around 210-250 days for the interview letter maybe more or maybe less...but that's how long people have waited based on those being interviewed at the moment. I'm on day 224 of waiting. If you have any grounds for an expedite or interviewing at a different consulate (if your husband have nationality elsewhere than Canada) then I'd suggest you'd do it. It's a long wait right now in MTL. 😕

you can buy property and close prior to his visa

then since colorado allows a quick claim deed,  you can add his name to the deed when he arrives

but to put him on the mortgage,  it would require to refinance (with all new closing costs)

so, if ready to purchase now,  you can

or wait till spouse is here to add him to mortgage

Transfer property in Colorado quickly and easily using this simple legal form. You can use a quitclaim deed to: transfer property to or from a revocable living trust. transfer property to one spouse as part of a divorce.  also applies to adding spouse

According to the US Government, in a year they process roughly 500000 immigration visas. Due to the pandemic, the backlog was at 469000 ish as of last month, so there is roughly a years worth of people waiting for interviews. The current VJ statistics have Montreal at 551 days after NOA2 to Interview. I would bank on waiting at least a year at this point after NOA 2. They’ve already slowed down IR/CR categories as they open other ones up again, so I don’t imagine this will pick up speed. I’m at 8 months and I’m hoping to get my letter next month for an interview in July so that’s 10 months for me while still having DQ’d in 2020.

I genuinely want to convey how devastating the wait has become during COVID- interview letters are not sent out at consistent times or with consistent numbers. There has been no real consistency or predictability which has made this all so much harder to handle and, while I’m sure they’ll get better as restrictions lift again, until then it’s all just open ended waiting. So yeah. I’d bank on closer to a year once you’re at NOA 2.
