Not enough people to fill jobs

Well im all up for people not having to work in badly paid jobs during a dangerous pandemic.

 

While the issue is way more complex and has to do with the economic crisis that half of the world us going to go through in the next several years, Im glad if people are staying safe at home or getting better paid elsewere. That is good for everyone.

 

(The "people are lazy" argument is so ridiculous and predictable though)

With the competition for the available labor out there, even some of the higher paid positions are going unfilled as you stated earlier.  What isn’t clear is the size of the labor market available as It is not just entry level positions that are having a hard time finding people.  It is clearly a leading indicator of inflation, scarcity of labor especially in the service sector, higher home prices, and higher cost of building materials [$10+ for a 10 ft 2x4 last time I checked].

Our garbage company here is having trouble keeping up, due to lack of people wanting to work. They are offering 5K sign bonuses for drivers.

My wife makes me take out the garbage but I told her about this and she wants to apply!

 

Garbage man is a really good job in some places.  Many U.S. cities have automated systems that don't require a lot of dirty work or heavy lifting.  Here in the Philippines, not so much.  I feel bad for those guys.

 

I was an industrial garbage man for Northrop Aircraft around 1975, right after high school, and fully enjoyed my 89 days on the job there.  Along with about 50 other guys, we were hired to assist painters paint the entire plant over the holidays.  The rest of the time, my job was drive around on an aircraft tug pulling trains of trash bins and rotating them.  I worked mainly with 2 guys that had hair down their ###, and quickly found out that one used the job to distribute his "goods" around the plant.  After 90 days you had to be hired as a permanent union employee.  Out of the 50 guys, he was the only one that got to stay, because his dad worked there.  The rest of us were laid off on day 89.

 

Those were the days!

That's half of what we pay in the Keys.  Then again all that garbage has to be trucked to the mainland or better yet, dumped at sea.

Maybe the analysts should be evaluated for their own employment.  Not to worry, Old Joe will push hard to spend a few more trillion dollars.

President Joe Biden on Friday addressed the April jobs report, which fell well below analysts' expectations, arguing the report is indicative of the long-term nature of the economic recovery, saying he expects improvement to be "a marathon," rather than a "sprint."

Many economists expected nearly 1 million jobs to be added to the economy in April, but the total was just 266,000, a significant slowdown in growth.

Didn't Biden also tell a reporter that the low number had nothing to do with people staying home due to excess federal aid?

If you told a 4th-grader that his allowance would be the same whether he did his chores or continued playing games on his tablet, what do you think the answer would be?  Biden and his puppetmasters can't figure this one out.
