My husband is an Albanian national who has been in the UK for 20 years this summer. He is currently on a spouse visa which is due to be renewed in February 2022. We were looking to apply for a US tourist visa around Dec 2021 (if borders are open) for a summer 2022 holiday but it has only just occurred to me that he needs to renew his UK Visa in Feb 2022.

Would it be best to wait till after the spouse visa renewal or would it not make a difference as he'll need it to travel regardless so will have to have a valid UK Visa at the point of the holiday?

Would suggest you wait till his UK residence visa is renewed. The interviewing officer will want to see some evidence of ties somewhere outside the US. If he has not lived in Albania for 20 years he clearly has no ties to home. If his residence permit is about to expire shortly after the visa interview and before he wants to travel to the US, it’s not a good look. Maybe he has other very strong  ties you haven’t mentioned but on the face of what you asked it makes sense to me to have a renewed UK visa first.

We have a joint mortgage together for our house here and a child but I suspected it would be best to wait, thanks.
