Well, I couldn't send a letter to the the legislator but I sent Jen an email of support, at least she willl know that people are supporting her from all over the world so to speak

It is a very stupid mistake to make and I feel for her terribly, but I can't help but wonder what we would have said to her if she'd posted her problem on this forum. Told her that she should not have lied and to go home, perhaps?

Maybe I'm cold-hearted, but I find it slightly hypocritical that a video makes the difference between us supporting her and telling her she should effectively suck it up because she lied.

My opinion :star:

Although I sympathize with Jen over her predicament, this was her own making. This is a classic example of a would-be immigrant who made one small mistake that has placed her status in the US in jeopardy. What about those who were here legally, got gypped by (ignorant?) lawyers and are now out of status? They need a way to fix their dilemma too. Maybe all of them should also make a website and post a video of their situation. Perhaps that will let people know that "illegal" immigration is not just about people sneaking through under the fence.

Regardless, there is not one person on the planet I would want

ever to be deported again.

Please help us get the Kennedy McKain bill passed. There are

two clauses in there that help put families back together after

deportation. They have not as yet been included in the specter

senate bill.

Not only is Jen suffering but so is her US Citizen family. We are

the forgotten Americans.

Please support the immigration advocacy demonstrations so that

people will stop being deported, It is the ultimate punishment.

it is not like she was trying to enter the United States illegally ... she made a mistake, people make mistakes

I made a stupid mistake a few years back, thankfully it didn't hurt me

I agree. She had a visa to come back in and wasnt trying to enter illegally. Its a shame and very sad that all her good work and achievements in the US are being totally overlooked for a stupid mistake. Perhaps I could understand if she hadnt had a visa at the time but this just seems so wrong.

I totally feel for Jen and her family. I would feel differently if she were trying to enter the US illegally, but she had a legal visa, and her crime was telling a lie. I hate to think how many times we have all lied when crossing borders into another country!!!!!! (some as small as the value of goods being brought into or out of the country).

Mistakes are meant to be forgiven!!!!!

She has my complete support and I hope they can get it all sorted out soon.

This is sad. I doubt that there is any person who has not made a mistake at some point in their life that could not be attributed to peer pressure.

I bet she didnt know at the time that it was illegal to portray an American. I have been her shoes before comming back from Mexico. I was asked if we were citizens. I said no we are citizens of Canada. I thank God I didnt say yes. I could see how easy it would be though to say yes. Yes she lied, but she didnt kill anybody. She was here legally. It's sad to see that if this bill doesnt pass that she will be seperated from her family. This country was built on immigrants. I think we should give her a second chance. If we give rapists, murders, sex offenders second chances why cant we for someone who told a lie just to save the grief of going through customs.

I guess if they can let 12 million illegals stay I guess they can let her stay too, but I like to know how she rates a member of congress to submit a bill on her behalf.

I'd like to know the same thing too mdyoung.

I truly feel for the girl but I am wondering why and how she is able to get special attention.

I know of a family who came here on an investor's visa. Opened a small business, now employing Americans. They've been here for close to 10 years and had retained an immigration lawyer to make sure they maintain their legal status. Their lawyer screwed up their paperwork and they just found out they have been out of status for over 2 years. I'm sure some people here will say, they should have gone home the moment they found out they're out of status. But they've built a life and a business here. Current immigration law does not give them a recourse. Rather, it tells them they are banned for 10 years.

They're a very good example of the need to revamp existing immigration laws. Having the story of Jen out there as it puts a face to illegal immigration. It makes people aware that not all illegal immigrants are criminals. Neither are they opportunists who try to jump the line. Some of them are honest, sincere folks who got taken in by someone else.

If any bill should be supported, then it should be for more rational and well-grounded immigration laws.
