Should I wait for GC before leaving for a vacation?

I entered the US on a spouse visa a couple of weeks ago and I'm waiting for the GC to be mailed to me.

I called the USCIS today and they said that they see my name and port of entry in the system but there's no info on the GC yet, which means they still haven't started the process....

My husband and I wanted to go on a holiday but I'm afraid that I might miss the GC when it comes by post.

SO I was wondering whether you need to be at home or they just put it in your mailbox?

I also heard that the mail people are instructed not to deliver GC's if they suspect that this person does not reside at this address, so you have to make sure that you get a bunch of mail in your name so that they know you actually live there....

They just put ours in our mailbox. It came in a very unassuming plain white envelope. It just looks like a regular credit card or junk mail item.

You can reduce the likelihood of the mail person not delivering your card by making sure your name's written inside (or on, or anywhere else where they'll see it) your mailbox. Might be worth taping a bit of paper with your name (and your husband's!) inside, just to be on the safe side. :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

You can go to the post office and put a "Hold" on your mail. You fill out a little card to tell them how long to hold the mail and they will keep your mail at the post office until you return from holiday. You indicate on the card when you want the delivery to resume or that you will pick it up when you return.
