Okay, noted. What I did say before that could not have violated the TOS is that I found the author's article elsewhere and found a very large falsehood in the second paragraph which made me doubt that the author had anything reliable to say about the topic. 

 

So I decided to read further. I read the rest of the blog post on the author's personal blog (I would link but the author has a VERY graphic picture of the effects of smallpox that made me feel sick). It's pure opinion, doesn't link to sources, leaps to conclusions by glossing over things he isn't sure of or says would take too long to explain. On top of it all, the epidemiology of smallpox and a novel coronavirus are not the same, and from what I can tell the author isn't really even making any science-based arguments, just.... conjecture. 

 

It's commentary, which is fine, but ultimately it's a blog post.

Cept in 1760 they had no understanding of Microbiology, Pathogens of Disease  vectors.

The blog post is correct that at the time of the epidemic, there were no vaccines, only variolation, but variolation works and was the foundation of Jenner's work on vaccines. 

 

Not all infectious diseases are alike though, which should be so self-evident I feel like I shouldn't' even have to say that. Parallels aren't appropriate because smallpox isn't COVID, and even if one is more infectious (smallpox) doesn't mean that success in controlling one disease through one means of quarantine would mean that the same type of quarantine is appropriate for another disease. I sort of have to think..... does this blogger not realize that this information is widely known and available to experts in disease control, and that the reason the Charleston smallpox quarantine isn't being applied in this country is because the science doesn't support its use?
