Does anyone else feel like a chump for playing by the rules, paying the immigration fees and waiting for years with an ever growing backlog?

Meanwhile those entering the country illegally or by claiming asylum get to bypass all of that. Seems like the government is now going all out to encourage the anything goes way of immigration and doing nothing to help the people who played by the rules. Sad

Embassy is closed? So what would be so difficult about doing more immigration interviews remotely, say with Zoom?

Exactly what do immigration people do all day now anyway? There was supposed to be a big drop in applications during covid.

Wouldn't that free up more time to process paperwork?

Embassies are open.  Which country are you referring to?

YMMV

Suspension of Routine Visa Services

Last Updated: July 22, 2020

In response to significant worldwide challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of State temporarily suspended routine visa services at all U.S. Embassies and Consulates. Embassies and consulates may now enter a phased resumption of visa services. As resources allow, embassies and consulates will continue to provide emergency and mission critical visa services and will resume routine visa services as local conditions and resources allow

So you are saying immigration interviews are being conducted as normal now?

Is that why everything is so fast now?

You have not identified which country or what visa type because the could be yes or no

I hear you OP. I was also wondering, why couldn't we just pass the interviews remotely. But I'm sure they have their reasons.

In terms of the embassies, embassy in Ukraine if I'm not mistaken never stopped making appointments for US citizens. But "routine visa services remain suspended". So we're stuck.

Glad to hear that some embassies are resuming immigration visa appointments though.

In some countries.  NZ, for example.

The faster individual countries can get their COVID numbers under control, the sooner US embassies and consulates will reopen.

Being unable to do biometrics remotely is a good reason.  I could see fraud going up up up with that loop hole.

Maybe OP is a troll since he doesn’t state which embassy or where he is in the process. Looking at a few posts through this site one would obviously see people are getting their visas issued. Thankfully the US is not where we were in July 2020. Many other countries can’t say the same. I don’t understand the entitled attitude when the world is in a pandemic. If this entitled attitude stopped a year ago maybe we wouldn’t be where we are at.
