I think most of the books I grew up with were banned sometime ago.

What does grooming have to do with discussion of sexuality in age-appropriate ways? I am of the generation that grew up with the whole stink of "Heather Has Two Mommies" and neither I nor my sister turned out to be a lesbian. Also, discussing LGBTQ issues does not necessarily involve sex. Does talking about straight relationships always involve talking about coitus? Or does it make gay kids straight? If we can't talk about sexuality, then we shouldn't have any discussion of straight relationships.

Do you assume that discussion of LGBTQ issues -- again, in age-appropriate ways -- is a way of somehow grooming children into... what? Having gay sex with adults?

How is this a "don't say gay" bill?  If we believe the activists on the Left that have labeled a bill something it is not, maybe there is an ulterior motive that these activist are pushing.  I always love the whole "age-appropriate" argument, you do realize that term has to be defined, and that definition may not agree with the definition the parents of these young children hold.  Regardless, the woke activist are out in force attacking this bill just like the voting laws bills, etc.  We see what happens to society when the Woke/Left/Dems get their way, not something I would like to promote.

Reading the actual bill:

https://m.flsenate.gov/session/bill/2022/1557/billtext/er/pdf

The procedures must reinforce the fundamental right of
74 parents to make decisions regarding the upbringing and control
75 of their children by requiring school district personnel to

76 encourage a student to discuss issues relating to his or her
77 well-being with his or her parent or to facilitate discussion of
78 the issue with the parent.

So this bill requires schools to encourage kids to solve any personal issues problems through their parents.  On the surface innocuous but then:

82. A school district may not adopt procedures or student
83 support forms that prohibit school district personnel from
84 notifying a parent about his or her student's mental, emotional,
85 or physical health or well-being, or a change in related
86 services or monitoring, or that encourage or have the effect of
87 encouraging a student to withhold from a parent such
88 information.

So an abusive parent can now circumvent the school’s role as a mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse at home.

So lots of unintended consequences.

Now onto the MSM meat that is the source of all the noise:

97 3. Classroom instruction by school personnel or third
98 parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur
99 in kindergarten through grade 3

So IOW no use of legacy gender nouns and pronouns until the 4th grade. Say good bye to mommy, daddy, man, woman, boy, girl, he, his, him, she, her.  And btw the etymology of they is a male pronoun.

So reading and writing of English beyond that needed to teach math won’t actually be taught for several years until school districts acquire materials that remove all use of genders: “look look. See Kim. See Kim’s parent. See Kim’s other parent.  See Kim’s parents and Kim get into a car.  See the car go.  See the car go to the beach.”

This isn’t the “don’t say gay bill”. It is the “don’t say he/she bill”.  Or the ”don’t  say mommy and daddy bill” .  It’s an utter boon for anyone who thinks there are dozens of genders.  I really cannot fathom why the left wing is against this bill as it gives it exactly what it wants.

or in a manner that is not age-
100 appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in

101 accordance with state standards.

This is vague and hence not actionable though I am sure it will generate lots of lawsuits. And the courts will say the same: not actionable.

Suffice to say the rest of the bill continues to undermine the school’s role as a mandatory reporter.

So the bill  will make it easier for parents to abuse their children without consequences and make it easier for the left to normalize non traditional gender identity

To most of De Santis’s base this bill is a nothing burger because they are home schooling anyway.

This bill will cement a permanent Democrat majority in 40 years.

I am really surprised at how easily De Santis was played.

US inflation soared 7.9% in past year, a fresh 40-year high

WASHINGTON -- Propelled by surging costs for gas, food and housing, consumer inflation jumped 7.9% over the past year, the sharpest spike since 1982 and likely only a harbinger of even higher prices to come.

The increase reported Thursday by the Labor Department reflected the 12 months ending in February and didn’t include the oil and gas price surges that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. Since then, average gas prices nationally have jumped about 62 cents a gallon to $4.32, according to AAA.

Gas Prices Headed Right Where The Democrats Want Them

By I & I Editorial Board - March 11, 2022

While running for president, Barack Obama said electricity prices will "necessarily skyrocket" under his energy plan.  As gasoline reaches unaffordable heights for many Americans, never forget that the Democratic Party wants to inflict painful energy costs on the country.  It's in its political DNA.  [...]

Biden's Gas Prices Are The 'Unity' President's Latest Way To Force You To Do What He Says

BY: KYLEE ZEMPEL - MARCH 11, 2022

[...] The president and his administration are bizarrely blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin for the high prices, which have been rising ever since Biden took office.  Even worse, they're suggesting the best way for you not to have to worry about the high prices at the pump is to buy an electric car.  [...]

Really my disgust is based on an issue you raise -- the language is really vague. Who determines what is "age-appropriate" or "developmentally appropriate" for an entire classroom of children? Some kids are always going to be further along in their intellectual and emotional development than others; should discussion be parked at the level of the least able? What are the state standards? How are they developed and who is developing them? Will only conservative voices be heard in developing standards if they aren't developed yet?

I also agree with you that it does make it easier for abusers at home to avoid consequences. However, what is wrong with accepting the reality that there are many, many "non traditional gender identity" people out there, just living their lives? Do you know any trans people? I know several, their lives are pretty unexceptional except for one thing -- they affirmed outwardly what they knew about themselves internally for a while. All of them have mentioned to me at one point or another that being able to talk about this when they were kids without being labeled mentally ill would have helped immensely.

I always wonder how many times people on here have been in situations in real life -- not online -- where they were asked to use a gender pronoun besides he/she, him/her. I grew up in Southern California and have lived here almost all my life. I live in a place referred to lovingly as "The People's Republic of Santa Monica." I can think of one time -- once! -- that a person with whom I was speaking asked that I use they/them pronouns when referring to them during a group discussion. I thought, huh, okay, and then proceeded to do so because I am polite and it costs me nothing to make others feel comfortable. Do I think some of the more out there pronouns are an affectation? Sure, yeah. But again, I'm not operating in any spaces where that's ever come up. I do wonder if English had a better gender-neutral singular pronoun than "one" (which really doesn't function like the singular of "they" anyway)  if much of this would be avoided anyway.

All of this is to say that I think you and I are on pages which may not be the same, but are not too far away from each other in the book. The bill is very poorly drafted and all it's going to do is open up avenues for expensive, unneeded lawsuits which the state will need to pay to defend. What was so wrong in Florida schools that the bill needed to be passed in the first place? Were there any incidents of eight year olds being exposed to, say, Lady Chatterley's Lover during story time?

OK...so what do YOU think? What do YOU think the standards should be? What for YOU is the age teachers should teach these issues? Today, maybe nobody, or few (mostly in college campuses) gets asked their preferred pronouns, but what about a few years from now?

Yes, I have met and have been friends with several transgender people (though one, the first time I met her, she looked at me like I was ham sandwich 😆) ... I've even been to several drag shows in Hawaii and Texas on occasion (though someone pinched my ### at one in Hawaii which wasn't really appreciated). Honestly, I don't think anything was wrong too much in Florida but we're watching the craziness happening all over the rest of the country and trying to nip it.

Will only conservative voices be heard in developing standards if they aren't developed yet? Do you ask this same question to yourself about the more liberal states: California, Oregon, Washington? I am guessing you don't.

If my child came up to me today, she is 10, and said "daddy,  I think I should've been born a boy"....what is your proposal? Should I call the surgery center and schedule an appointment? Or, should I leave it to the school to decide?

Yes, some parents are abusers...that's terrible, but should we assume ALL parents are abusers and not give them the right to information about their child?
