There’s a wee bit more to it than that.

So wee that you didn’t cite it  and even if you did, it doesn’t change the point that Biden’s policies caused gasoline price hikes.

$3.79 here in kansas as of yesterday, that's up about 60 cents from a week ago
sure is odd that we didn't have this problem while trump was in office.

Not the entire reason by a long shot. Much more to it.

Do you believe that Biden's policies of shutting down and discouraging domestic production have contributed to the price increases?

If you don’t grasp that nothing I can say will change your mind.

I grasp facts and data, both of which I haven’t found in your rebuttals.

So investor panic over the war has nothing to do with it. Got it. Fuel oil went up $2 gallon in 10 days because of Biden and Biden alone.

Where I am it had been around $3.80 and jumped over a few days to $4.40

It had been down to $2 pre Biden

The same speculation which Biden started by canceling the Keystone pipeline and his nutty multiple methods of discouraging domestic production.

Then you agree that Biden has created 6 million new jobs?

That is most definitely part of it

The war is possible because Russia can pay for it with higher revenue from higher oil prices. And as you admitted oil prices are higher because Biden’s policies suppressed American supply.

Finally, Putin invades other countries when there isn’t a president named Trump in office. It was Michele Obama’s future boyfriend who looked Putin “in the eye” and “found him very straightforward and trustworthy”. Then Putin invaded Georgia.  It was Michele Obama’s husband who “reset” the relationship with Russia. And then Putin invaded Crimea.  It was Michele Obama’s pal who used Putin to negotiate a nuclear weapons deal with Iran and then Putin invaded the rest of Ukraine.

There's a good primer in a recent Atlantic article which gives three possible reasons (but these are not exhaustive by any means -- a friend I was talking with also mentioned oil and gas companies taking record profits, gouging prices and blaming it on inflation).

 https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2022/02/why-gas-got-so-expensive/622887/

We have to remember that presidential policy has only so much influence on gas prices. Much of this is on a global scale and no matter how much clout a president has on the global stage, he isn't capable of doing it on his own. It's easy to look at one boogeyman and say "it's all his fault" but that's far too simplistic, especially when we're talking about an industry that transcends borders. This isn't to say the Biden administration gets a pass but it is to say that we need to stop thinking that there are any easy solutions here.

This morning, the S&P 500 went back up significantly (biggest increase since June 2020) on the back of oil prices dropping and news of the Ukrainian and Russian foreign ministers meeting. Eventually as we settle into the war and production outside of Russia ramps up, prices at the pump will drop. I don't think that eventually will necessarily even be that long since gasoline prices basically go up and down on the strength of a fart at an OPEC meeting. 🙄

Excellent. In all serious though, if I could reach in and peek into an alternate universe where Donald Trump (or any Republican for that matter) was President, I would love to see how your posted article from The Atlantic (D) would have been written... though I am quite certain that it wouldn't have been anything like that.
