My understanding (which is limited) is that quite a bit of the recent month on month increase is related to continuing relatively high rates of unemployment. As unemployment levels out, the number will drop. Right now I'm working in my dad's office, and they are trying to hire a new attorney to replace one who is quitting the sector to reassess what he wants out of life. It is really hard to find a replacement -- the salary and benefits are average, the working conditions are (I am told) pretty good (there is no screaming here), and they're not looking for someone with a gazillion years experience in a niche area. This is apparently what the market's like right now. It's not just minimum wage workers who are staying away from returning to the workforce while they consider what they want out of life.

 

We're still only 6 months in, there's still a pandemic out there, and a lot needs to shake out. I am not being overly rosy about things, but the world turned upside down last year and it will take a while to right itself.

My brother runs a small niche law firm.  After Covid they took a hard look at returning to the office.  He decided to forego the 20K month rent bill and equip everyone to work from home permanently.  Besides the cost savings, everyone agreed that work life balance is better and productivity is up. Retaining talent in this market is an issue.
