How much time does take to get a new SSN? I applied before marriage/ before i-94 expiry. Almost month now, when I call SSN office they said they are waiting from DHS for the confirmation.what does it mean? @Greenbaum

SSA requires information from DHS on the applicants status to be issued a SSN. This can take 6 or more weeks. Not everyone who applies before marrying gets a  SSN application through successfully before the I94 expires unfortunately. SSA won’t act until they hear back from DHS. If it isn’t through by the time your 90 days runs out then unfortunately you will need to wait until the EAD is in hand and go to the  office  and reapply
