I hope everyone is doing well today. I just need your advice with regards to getting my police certificate. We are still waiting for our form I-130’s approval but I just want to be one step ahead specially of the delays on requiring documents from another country. Me and my husband got married in 2019. I have a police certificate from the Philippines in my maiden name. I’m thinking of getting one now on my married name since the expiration date won’t be an issue because I last stayed in the Philippines in 2015 and never came back. Since I will be applying as a “new applicant” because my last name has changed, the processing will take some time. Should I get one now? Or should I wait until it’s being asked so the date will be most recent if that makes sense?

since u have not gone back there to live ,  it is not necessary  / they will not ask for one as you have not returned to live there

and the certificate will have your maiden name , which is one of the ones that must be listed under " all former names used" plus is on most marriage certificates

Hello here is my experience my wife went to Japan to work for 3 year so we had to get one from Japan and her home country  if you had live in another country for more then six month you are required to have a police report from that country or you will get stuck at the nvc documents section. Good luck don't get one too early some country police report only good for 3 month.

Oh I see. I thought all along that I needed to obtain a new one under my married name. Thank you so much!

Yeah I’m fully aware of that but since I never went back to the Philippines since 2015, from what I read, there’s no need to get a new one as a person cannot commit a crime if not physically present eh. Since my last police certificate was on my maiden name, I was under the impression of getting a new one since I got married in 2019 and changed my last name. I was wondering if I had to or if my old one will be accepted. If I get a new one under my married name, I think same rules apply to that since I never went back to the Philippines. So I just want to double check on that tho.

Travel.state.gov was where I found all my information and embassy specific if you have any seal police report do not open my wife and I made that mistake and we're had to get another the delay for 2 month cause it was from Japan. It not hard to obtained the police report as long as you have documents from the country you are no longer living in just present it to the Philippines embassy if there one in the country your currently living in now. Hope this help

Depends on whether you ever lived in the Philippines after marriage.  You didn't.  If the NBI Certificate you have was issued after you left the P.I. you're good to go.

Yeah I didn’t. Thank you! Good thing I don’t have to go for another dreadful wait time for that.

Nvc will ask for a current police report

Yeah for sure they will where I presently live which is in Canada. I also read in that website that police certificates are only valid for a year from where you are currently living. For other countries that you lived before and never went back, you can submit the expired one that you hold as long as the date falls on the year that you left that country. I have no issues with that. What I was concerned about was my maiden and Married name. AnyhOw, I already found the answer to that. Thanks tho.
