Your  child might be a US citizen already.  See

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_nationality_law#Through_birth_abroad_to_United_States_citizens

If so, a CRBA is highly recommended in addition to a passport.

Also once in the USA, order a passport card for your child.  Three proofs of US citizenship can be handy.

Getting  a CRBA in the USA requires the passport office be open. It is closed for the pandemic.

I see you from Myanmar and I'm from Myanmar too.Glad to see you.

She mention CRBA, but she said it should be done as soon as the child was born. And she said since my child is over 2 years old now, I cannot do CRBA anymore and the best way is to get a passport (not U.S passport).

Drop her fast.

CRBA is valid up to age 18 of the child.

Nonsense and total nonsense.   CRBA is still available as long as the child is still a CHILD.

YMMV

Thank you every one who help me out. I cannot get CRBA for my child right now.Should I go ahead and apply for I-130 or should I wait until CRBA is available?

If your child a a US citizen, the I-130 will be rejected.  Apply for  a US passport for your child.

If your child is not a US citizen, file an I-130 for your child.  The moment your child arrives in the USA with your wife, the child will be a US citizen provided your child lives with you and for practical purposes your wife also lives with you.  You will be able to immediately order a US passport for your child.

And get a passport card too.

Can you enlighten me cause I don't really know what to do. Basically I'm trying to bring my wife and child to the States. My spouse is a foreign nationality and I totally understand the process for my spouse. But for my child I'm still having trouble figure it out. My child was born after we married.

(1).Do I need to apply I-130 for my child in order to bring to U.S.

(2). Let's say I got CRBA, then what is the next step? I cannot just buy a flight ticket with CRBA for sure.

any help is appreciated!

1) This question wr have been trying to answer but you're not getting it.  When did you get your citizenship.   Are you Natural born or naturalized?

2)  if your child gets a CRBA,  then you apply for a US passport at the consulate.   Once the passport arrives,  the child can travel to the USA.

YMMV

The child will travel on her US passport.

When did you naturalize?  Were you a USC when the child was born?  How many years were you present inside the USA prior to your child's birth?

The passport would be applied for at the consulate AND delivered to the consulate

YMMV

Hey Mike,

Thank You! I didn't do anything for my child yet such as CRBA,etc. So basically I think my child is not a U.S citizen yet. Actually I'm preparing I-130 for my spouse and child almost ready to file. But when my immigrant specialist told me to get a passport for my child  this question arise , "whether my child need a passport or not in order to file petition?" And subsequently, I just learn that I could get CRBA for my child.

So, obviously it is very hard to get CRBA for my child currently because of the situation in Myanmar. So I'm in the middle of confusion that whether my child need a passport in order to file I 130.

I was naturalize back in june, 2016.Yes I was a U.S citizen when I married, so I was a citizen before the child was born. And I was about 10 years prior in the US before the child was born.
