Hey all,

I am trying to decide whether I should try to transfer my fiancés ready K1 Visa from the Barbados embassy (because they're still closed completely- or so they say), to Jamaica embassy. I have been told it might be possible, however there is a significant backlog. Is anyone else on here ready at either embassy and can give me some idea of timeline?

Thanks,

Briana Peterson

Does your fiance have Jamaican citizenship or legal resident status?

He does not. He is a legal resident of Grenada. I emailed the Jamaican embassy however and they said due to Bridgetown being closed, a transfer would be possible. He is able to enter Jamaica as a Grenadian.

The Jamaica embassy said they had backlogs ranging in the thousands and were currently scheduling interviews in the single digits only, not even 10 per day. They are also only currently processing expedited cases. Interviews that were cancelled because of the pandemic are in the hundreds. Those who have been DQ’d so far this year are  looking at a 6-12 month wait since there are thousands of people ahead of them. I have a friend who was DQ’d in November and still waiting. If that gives you any idea...

It definitely does thank you. I'm guessing I'm better off just waiting for Barbados to open. I am sad for all of us patiently struggling through this time of separation.
