Hi,

I filed my IR-1/CR-1 Adjustment of Status application in Dec 2020 and hadn't heard anything back. I decided to request for my EAD application to be expedited as I have mental health issues which are being exacerbated by an extended period of unemployment among other things.

I tried to call the USCIS contact center but couldn't get through to an officer. Spoke to someone on the Live Chat service who said I couldn't request expedited EAD until I got biometrics done. They allowed me to request an expedited Biometrics appointment instead. Outlined the reasons for my request through live chat, they forwarded this on to an officer and said I would get a call within 72 hours.

Received a call from a USCIS officer and was expecting to have to state my case and be interrogated. The officer informed me my request was granted and gave me date and time of appointment, 23rd April 2021.

I will be looking to request an expedited EAD once I have completed the biometrics appointment and I am confident of it being granted. Does anyone have knowledge of how long a request like this would take if granted?

Thanks

There is no adjustment of status for those who enter the US via an IR-1/CR-1 visa.  On what basis did you enter the US?  Terminology is important in the immigration process.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Your chance of receiving an expedited EAD will be greatly improved if you have a written job offer to present as evidence for the need.

If approved, it can still take several months.

Looks like this is a VWP Express case.

Yeah I was reading about the job offer being significant. Unfortunately, I am unlikely to be in a position professionally to be offered a job without already having the right to work. I'll pursue that option though

I thought that might be the case that it would still take several months, I guess I'll just have to hope to be lucky and get it sooner. Thanks for the advice

Waiting in the normal EAD queue is unfortunately one of the well-known drawbacks to adjusting from a nonimmigrant visa.
