Getting an ITIN number online?

Hello,

I had a question in regards to obtaining an ITIN number for my wife. I (US citizen) am currently living with my wife in Turkey(Iranian Citizen). In order for me to fill out my tax returns I need to get an ITIN number for my spouse. From reading the IRS website, I will need to go to an Acceptance Agent that will give us an ITIN number, however because Corona is so bad in Turkey most offices are closed in Istanbul. I finally found someone in turkey and was instructed to go to their website and pay $189 to obtain an ITIN number. The website is einitin.com 

I am a little worried that this site might be a scam. I don't mind the fee if it is a legit website but I am worried that they might steal our info. 

 

Do others have any thoughts about this matter?

If it's not listed on this page, then it's not a legit acceptance agent for Turkey -- https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/acceptance-agents-turkey

 

There's no online application for ITIN.  You submit the required documents to the IRS directly or via an acceptance agent on the official IRS list.

Acceptance Agents don’t give out ITIN numbers. They certify photocopies of identity documents like her passport so you don’t have to send her actual passport to the IRS..
