Approved! The interview went well though we waited for over an hour before being called. The interview itself was 10-15 minutes, they interviewed us together and the questions were pretty straightforward. We didn't get approved on the spot because they hadn't finished the background check, but my status changed to "new card being produced" a few hours later. I'll post a more detailed review later.

Hello all,

My status just updated from “case is ready to be scheduled for an interview to “interview scheduled”. I did not submit my medical, can anyone let me know what the next steps would be? My timeline is;

05/19/2021 - NOA receipt notices

09/22/2021 - biometrics done

9/26/2021 - case is ready to be scheduled for an interview

10/08/2021 - interview scheduled

waiting for interview notice in mail.

That's great news! :) If I were you I'd start gathering the documents that are original to bring to the interview and any other additional proof you've accumulated since submitting the application. Also call around to see where to get your medical done so when you get the interview notice/date you can get it done ASAP.

Here's the text of my interview notice, in case it might be helpful. It appears to be very generic, for all I-485 applicants, not just marriage/family-based. Some comments:

  • Even though it says face coverings are required if you are not fully vaccinated, this may be superseded by local regulations. For example, in Los Angeles County, masks are currently required indoors regardless of vaccination status.
  • We submitted an I-864 with our initial application. We didn't bring a new I-864 to the interview, but we did bring the evidence requested in the letter (tax returns, pay stubs, etc.). It didn't come up at all in the interview.
  • "Any immigration-related documentation ever issued to you" - other than asking the date of my most recent entry to the US, this didn't come up at all in the interview. I brought all my old I-20s and SEVIS receipt from 12 years ago just in case but that probably wasn't necessary.
  • We submitted a lot of evidence with our initial application so we didn't bring a huge pile of new evidence. We brought joint bank account and credit card statements for the past 3 months, and a bill of sale and title for the vehicle we recently bought together. The officer kept these. We brought a photo album which the officer flipped through, but didn't keep any of the photos.
  • The officer wanted to see our certified copy of the marriage certificate, my spouse's US passport and my Canadian passport, and my birth certificate from Canada. He didn't ask for my spouse's US birth certificate.
  • We brought originals of everything we submitted with our initial application, but the officer didn't ask for any of it other than what I mentioned above.

The letter below looks generic, but make sure you read your own interview notice carefully in case there are differences.

Get your medical done as soon as you can. You should have already done it. No reason to wait. We did ours last February and just handed it in with the interview 10 days ago. You will now need a Covid shot if you don't have one yet so you can do that while waiting for your medical appointment.
