Not Actually Residing in Country of Interview Location - Problem?

Hello,

My wife's I-130 was recently forwarded to the NVC, and the interview location is listed as Budapest, Hungary (my wife's home country). We are currently living in the UAE, and we plan to move from here in 2022. We listed the interview location as Budapest because things in the UAE are quite unpredictable, and we didn't want to delay the visa by having to change interview locations. Getting to and from Budapest for the interview is no problem.

My question is, can we proceed with the interview location as Budapest, Hungary, even if we don't currently reside there full time? Will it raise eyebrows if we list our current address as in the UAE (we do also have a domicile in Hungary)?

Yes, your wife can interview in her home country.  No, it will not cause concerns.

We had a choice - KSA or home country.  It isn’t a problem but at least in Saudi the police certificate is issued by invitation - that is the consulate created an “official” document in Arabic that requests it, then you go to another agency to get that request attested, then you bring it to the police station to get fingerprinted and get it done, then you go to a translator to get it translated, and the whole puppet show takes about 6 week.  The document is part of the case that is created by the embassy and I am not sure we would have been able to get one if our case was not in Riyadh.

I heard the UAE is easier but that has to be submitted for interview along with the certificate from home country (and anywhere else the beneficiary has lived).  I’d be checking on that from now.

Not sure where the medical would be done, but it’s usually done in the country of interview.

In short:  It doesn’t matter where the interview is done, but it (at least in my view) can tangle up those two items that are part of the beneficiary’s preparation for the interview.

I see - thank you for that information - I imagine that here in the UAE we'll also need to go through a similar process. We'll begin collecting these documents now, so I really appreciate your post!
