Hi everyone!

I’m getting ready to submit my K1 package and wanted to know if the package is returned to you before the interview. It seems like you have to bring the same things you submitted originally with you. How should I approach a duplicate package.

Thanks in advance!

You do not get the package returned.  Some embassies attached a scanned copy of the K1 petition to the email they send to the beneficiary/applicant about scheduling the interview and the list of documents to bring to said interview.

Most people make a copy before sending the K1 package to have for their records.

The required documents for the interview are not the same as in the original K1 package.  Police clearance certificate, birth certificate, military records, etc., are not in the original K1 package.  The relationship evidence they often ask for are for the time spent after the K1 package is submitted, to show that the couple are still a couple.  Also, they will need a fresh copy of intent to marry letters from both parties, with current dates.

Any documents that you submit with the original petition are only copies. Originals must be brought to the interview. For example, if either of you has been married before you will need the death certificate or divorce decree for your previous spouse. For the petition you send a copy, for the embassy you take the original to the interview.

Generally speaking this isn't true that evidence brought to interview is a repeat of the petition submission

YMMV

You make two copies.  One copy for you, submit a copy, and bring all the original documents that are part of the submission to the interview.

At least that’s what we do.  You will be wanting to keep and carry copies of everything you ever submitted why?

You’ll use the same information over and over and want the exact same answers to the exact same questions on every subsequent form and application.

Including the visa application.  Print and keep a copy.  The last thing anybody needs is some filed document that says one thing on one blank and something else on another.  We have a vast collection of filed documents.  They all say the same thing.
