Hello Family

I would like to know what should be the right approach , My 5th Anniversary of being a green card holder will be in November 2021 , cause along my journey my wife passed . My question is i want to file for my Neutralization In August 90 days prior to my 5th Anniversary , at the same time i would like to go on a vacation in December to Africa , With the timeline on how things would be processed is it okay for me to file or wait till i get back from Africa to file

Thank you

Opinion only:

File in August as you are able,

don't buy the flight ticket till you have the biometrics (ours took a week /some are longer now because of covid)

after that make the trip home if all covid restrictions are lifted (meanwhile get the vaccine)

the interviews are so backed up ,  u r probably safe to go and return in plenty of time for the interview

and this is ONLY MY OPINION

if you check the local office that will hold your interview on following site , you can see how timeline of the process

just enter the form # and office to see expected wait times

This seems good in normal situation, but now biometrics in some offices is taking a long time. I filed in May and still waiting for biometrics appointment until now (11 months passed).

Therefore, It is safe that he goes in his vacation and files when he comes back.

he has to live in the county of residence for 3 previous months before applying so if he leaves the country and county this doesn't work

Why would overseas travel before filing an N-400 a bad idea? It's only a vacation. OP didn't say anything about moving.

There might be instances though that overseas travel can affect N-400 application.

That does not apply to him because he is going in vacation and coming back to the same county. My idea was if he files and waits for biometrics before going in his vacation, he may wait for a long time because of the delays in biometrics in some offices; therefore it might be a good idea to go in vacation and files when he comes back. This has nothing to do with the three months requirement.
