How do we even know now?  Pigs are flying everywhere.  The media are fessing up.  After fanning COVID panic for a year, Democratic newsletter Salon admits it was all for partisan purposes: "Americans have been sucked into an all-or-nothing approach, with your choice of all or nothing depending largely on your partisan identity."  Salon continues:  [...]

My thoughts are we have two threads , proclaiming that taking action to resolve the covid crisis is a "disaster".

Why is this a left or right issue? Can't we get behind common sense? Social distancing, wear a mask, wash your hands, the vaccine is not a plot by Bill Gates...not a tough thing for me to do. I don't think I am too special that others cannot embrace.

It is really hard to not see there were politics being played with the pandemic.  The Trump CDC came out with common sense guidelines, but they were slammed by the folks on the Left.  Travel restrictions were imposed and Leftist politicians were railing against them.  Now we get major virtue signaling from the likes of Dr. Fauci and the new CDC director for purely political purposes.  We can even mention how Old Joe called Governor Abbott a Neanderthal for lifting restrictions purely for political purposes while Governor Cuomo was winning awards for his stupid policies.  The Democrats follow the "let no crisis go to waste" mentality.

The problem with this statement

'Now we get major virtue signaling from the likes of Dr. Fauci and the new CDC director for purely political purposes".. is that these are prominent experts in their field. There is nothing "purely political' in their track record although they understand and signed up for that constraint when they entered public health. You can ascribe intent when none exists, but it undermines your argument. They are interested in keeping people safe and well.

So another opinion piece from a person that is complaining about other people's opinion pieces that also have no experience on the subject. To boot they admit they took risks that could have potentially injured and killed their family members and because they were lucky they think everyone else should do the same. Have I got it right? Sorry, but perhaps the real disaster is the fact that over 500,000 people are dead, and some are willing to shut their eyes and keep trampling on the bodies of our loved ones.

Politics are not solely the Democrats/Republicans, in the case of Fauci, and the new CDC director, that sometimes speaks as the director, and other times as a mother, they see a certain amount of power with their positions, and we all know what happens when people gain power.  Fauci himself admitted to dumbing down messages for political purposes (I assume to keep the hoi polloi in line), but I really wonder if anyone is actually listening to him anymore (actually it is hard to hear him speak now with his multiple masks covering his mouth even though he is fully vaccinated).  Btw, there are many prominent medical experts out there.

So every other noted epidemiologist that may disagree with Fauci is a RWNJ?  I guess people do need someone to worship.

   There's no such thing as the "Trump CDC". The CDC came out with guidelines for reopening and the Trump administration ignored most of them. Trump entirely shelved the first set of guidelines put out by the CDC and then proceeded with the most ambiguous response to a pandemic we have ever seen. The federal response is one of the big reasons we still are where we are a year later, in the midst of a pandemic.

Not really certain what Trump ignored since the Federal government was not responsible for the shut-downs or re-openings.  As to the common sense guidelines, I was referring to the hygiene and physical distancing aspect, of course they vacillated on the whole mask thing for stupid reasons, but that is so last year, now we will be wearing masks perpetually even after being vaccinated.

  The federal response was part of what led to the scenario that made shutdowns last longer than they needed to.
