Translator for AOS interview

Hey All- so I’m assuming the spouse can’t be the translator for the k1s AOS interview so they will have a phone translator. Is there a form that has to be submitted by the translator? Does the applicant/officer just call the translator at the beginning of the interview?  Thanks! Happy Easter!

My husband and I just did our interview and even though the interview document says to have your own Translator readily available (which we did, we had someone ready by phone that we prepaid for through a translating service), as soon as we get called up the officer asks if my husband needs a translator, I say yes, and we’re ready to go with one over the phone per the interview letter. The CO hesitates and goes hold here just one sec. 

 

Long story short he comes back and get us and tells us he has a translator ready on the phone for us. I was grateful but annoyed at the same time because we already paid the translating service. So they will provide translating service for you. I’m not sure if some CO’s are different so if you’re still suspicious of it, then have someone readily available just in case.

While I was attending my GC interview this week, an interpreter came in just behind us and was not going to be allowed to attend the interview in person with her elderly father. We heard the officer take the interpreter's phone number, and said they would call them if he needed assistance. The interpreter was then instructed to leave the building.
